CHAPTER 15 – SHE FINALLY STOPPED FLINCHING

CHAPTER 15 – SHE FINALLY STOPPED FLINCHING

Months later...

Our home felt peaceful again.

My daughter slowly smiled more often.

She laughed during breakfast.

She slept through the night.

One evening she reached for my hand.

I instinctively expected her to flinch.

She didn't.

She held my hand tightly.

Then smiled.

"Daddy..."

"Grandma can't find me anymore."

I knelt beside her.

"No."

"Nobody will ever hurt you again."

She wrapped both tiny arms around my neck.

For the first time since that terrible night...

She hugged me without fear.

May you like

And I finally knew...

The trap my family built had destroyed themselves instead of the little girl they tried to steal.
