Chapter 9 - The Trap Inside My Own Home

The photo changed everything.

Daniel and Vanessa weren’t just working together.

They had known each other long before me.

I felt betrayed all over again.

The people closest to me…

Were strangers wearing familiar faces.

I rushed home.

The moment I entered…

I heard voices.

Vanessa.

And Daniel.

They were in the kitchen.

Arguing.

“You promised me.”

Vanessa sounded angry.

“You said he would never find out.”

Daniel replied quietly.

“You lost control.”

“You hurt the children.”

A silence followed.

Then Vanessa whispered:

“You’re blaming me?”

“You’re the one who wanted his company.”

My blood went cold.

I pulled out my phone.

I recorded everything.

Daniel sighed.

“We need to leave before he destroys us.”

Vanessa laughed.

“He won’t.”

“He loves those children too much.”

That sentence made me step forward.

Both of them turned.

Their faces changed.

They knew.

I had heard everything.

Daniel slowly stood.

“Michael…”

I raised my phone.

“Don’t.”

Vanessa looked at me.

“You think this proves anything?”

I smiled.

“Yes.”

“Everything.”

Daniel’s face became angry.

“You don’t understand what you’re dealing with.”

I walked closer.

“No.”

“I understand perfectly.”

“You used my trust.”

“You used my children.”

“You used my home.”

Vanessa suddenly smiled.

A terrifying smile.

Then she said something I never expected.

“Ask Lily who her real mother is.”

The room became silent.

I stared at her.

“What?”

Daniel looked uncomfortable.

Vanessa continued.

“Ask her.”

“Then you’ll understand.”

My heart started racing.

Because even after everything…

May you like

She still had one more secret.

And she knew exactly how to use it.
