Chapter 15 - The Family We Chose

One year later.
The Vale estate was full of life again.
Not the fake elegance from the past.
Not the cold mansion where people whispered secrets.
A real home.
Children running through the gardens.
Laughter in the halls.
People sitting together without fear.
Emma stood beneath the old wolf symbol.
The same symbol that started everything.
She looked at me.
“Uncle Sebastian.”
“Yes?”
“Why are there three wolves now?”
I smiled.
Because she had noticed.
The old symbol had been changed.
No longer two wolves.
Three.
One for each brother.
One for each part of the family.
“Because your family learned something.”
“What?”
I looked at Luca.
Then Adrian.
Then at her.
“That nobody survives alone.”
She smiled.
Then returned to drawing.
---
Luca and I often talked about the lost years.
Not because we wanted to remember the pain.
Because we wanted to understand it.
One evening, we sat outside watching the sunset.
“You ever think about what would have happened if Clara never found you?”
I asked.
Luca smiled.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because she did.”
Simple.
That was Luca.
He always focused on what mattered.
Not what was lost.
What was saved.
---
Before the year ended, I visited the old underground archive one final time.
The place where so many secrets had lived.
The place where my family almost destroyed itself.
I removed every file connected to Project Wolf.
Not to hide them.
They were already preserved for justice.
I removed them because they no longer represented who we were.
Then I placed one thing inside the archive.
A drawing.
Emma’s first drawing of the wolves.
A reminder.
Not of betrayal.
But of survival.
---
Years ago, I believed power was everything.
Money.
Influence.
Control.
I thought those things made a person untouchable.
I was wrong.
The strongest people are not those who stand above everyone else.
They are the ones who stand beside others when everything falls apart.
My brother taught me that.
My niece taught me that.
Even the people who betrayed us taught me that.
The Vale family spent generations building walls.
But walls never protected us.
They only separated us.
It took thirteen years.
It took betrayal.
Loss.
And almost losing everything.
But eventually…
We found our way back.
The wolf mark that began as a warning became a promise.
A promise that no child in the Vale family would ever be abandoned again.
A promise that blood would no longer be a weapon.
A promise that family would finally mean what it was always supposed to mean.
Protection.
Love.
Home.
And when Emma asked me years later what the wolf symbol really meant…
I gave her the answer Luca gave me.
“The wolf is not powerful because it hunts alone.”
I smiled.
“It is powerful because it protects its pack.”
And for the first time in generations…
The Vale family was no longer a name people feared.
May you like
It was a name people trusted.
The wolves had finally come home.
