Chapter 13 - The Last Secret Of Vale

For the first time in thirteen years, the Vale estate was quiet.

Not the kind of silence that came before danger.

Not the silence of secrets hiding behind locked doors.

A peaceful silence.

The kind my brother deserved.

The kind my family had forgotten existed.

Luca sat in the garden with Emma, helping her draw.

I watched from the balcony.

The sight still felt impossible.

For years, I had imagined every possible ending to Luca’s disappearance.

Most of them ended with revenge.

Some ended with justice.

None ended like this.

My brother sitting beneath the morning sun.

His daughter laughing beside him.

Alive.

But happiness in the Vale family had always been temporary.

And I knew better than anyone that old enemies rarely disappeared quietly.

Mateo approached behind me.

“Sebastian.”

I turned.

His expression told me something was wrong.

“What happened?”

He handed me a file.

“We found something inside the recovered archives.”

I looked down.

The label immediately caught my attention.

PROJECT WOLF.

My stomach tightened.

“Richard already confessed.”

Mateo shook his head.

“This isn’t Richard’s file.”

I opened it.

And the first page made my blood run cold.

The author was not Richard.

Not Victor.

Not even the council.

It was my grandfather.

The founder of Vale Global.

---

The document was older than the company itself.

Inside were records of the original Vale inheritance system.

But one detail changed everything.

The hidden trust was never created to give power to the strongest heir.

It was created to protect the family from becoming corrupted.

The money.

The assets.

The influence.

They were never the purpose.

They were the test.

The person who inherited everything had to prove they valued people above power.

A strange condition.

One my grandfather believed would prevent the family from becoming monsters.

But the council had twisted it.

They removed heirs.

They controlled information.

They turned protection into domination.

I closed the file.

“Richard knew.”

Mateo nodded.

“He discovered the original purpose.”

“So he destroyed everyone who could expose him.”

“Yes.”

I looked toward the garden.

At Luca.

At Emma.

At the family I almost lost forever.

But something bothered me.

There was another page.

A final note.

Written by my grandfather.

The final heir must never rule alone.

I frowned.

“What does this mean?”

Mateo looked confused.

“I don’t know.”

I turned the page.

Then I saw the names.

Three heirs.

Three wolves.

Three branches of the Vale bloodline.

Luca.

Adrian.

And me.

My heart stopped.

The inheritance was never meant for one person.

It belonged to all three.

---

That night, I gathered everyone.

Luca.

Adrian.

Clara.

Even Eleanor.

The woman who had nearly destroyed us.

I placed the document on the table.

“This changes everything.”

Luca read silently.

Then looked at me.

“I thought the inheritance was the reason they hunted us.”

“It was.”

I pointed at the document.

“But they misunderstood it.”

Adrian looked angry.

“People died because they wanted control of something they never understood.”

Victor, who had been released under supervision while cooperating with the investigation, spoke quietly.

“That was always the weakness of the council.”

Everyone looked at him.

“They believed power was something you owned.”

He looked at Emma.

“They never understood power was something you carried.”

---

Later that night, I found Luca alone.

“You knew.”

He looked at me.

“About the trust?”

I nodded.

“How?”

He smiled sadly.

“Because Father told me.”

I froze.

“Our father?”

“Yes.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me?”

Luca looked away.

“Because he told me something else.”

“What?”

He turned back.

“He said you were the one person in the family who still had a chance to break the cycle.”

I laughed softly.

“Me?”

“Yes.”

He smiled.

“The coldest person in the family.”

I looked offended.

He laughed.

For the first time in years.

A real laugh.

“You always thought being strong meant feeling nothing.”

He looked at me.

“But you were wrong.”

A pause.

“Being strong means still caring when everyone gives you a reason not to.”

---

The next morning, something happened that none of us expected.

Eleanor asked to see Emma.

Everyone was cautious.

Especially me.

But Emma simply walked over.

The little girl who had survived more than anyone knew.

Eleanor knelt.

“I’m sorry.”

Emma looked at her.

“For what?”

Eleanor began crying.

“For not protecting your father.”

Emma was quiet.

Then she reached out and held her hand.

A simple gesture.

But it broke Eleanor completely.

Because forgiveness was something the adults in our family had forgotten.

Children still understood it.

---

That evening, I stood outside the estate.

Looking at the wolves carved into the stone entrance.

For generations, the Vale family had feared the wolf.

They believed it represented power.

Dominance.

Survival.

But Luca had always understood something different.

The wolf survived because it had a pack.

And maybe…

Maybe that was the secret my family had been searching for all along.

Not power.

Not money.

Not control.

May you like

Family.
