One year later.
Daniel visited Noah’s school event.
He stood in the back.
Watching his son laugh.
Claire noticed him.
“He wants to talk to you,” she said.
Daniel looked surprised.
“Really?”
Claire nodded.
“But don’t expect him to forget.”
Daniel kneeled beside Noah.
“I’m sorry.”
Noah looked at him.
A long silence.
“Daddy…”
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.
“I know I hurt you.”
The little boy looked down.
“You picked Lily first.”
Daniel broke.
“Yes.”
“And Mommy cried.”
“Yes.”
Noah thought for a moment.
Then said:
“I forgive you.”
Daniel cried.
But Noah continued:
May you like
“But I won’t forget.”
And Daniel knew he deserved that.
