CHAPTER 2 — The Truth Claire Had Been Hiding

CHAPTER 2 — The Truth Claire Had Been Hiding

Three days passed.

Noah remained unconscious.

Claire refused to leave his side.

She slept sitting beside his bed.

She ate nothing except what nurses forced her to take.

Every night, she held Noah’s hand and whispered:

“Mommy is here.”

Daniel tried to enter the room again.

But Claire stopped him.

“You don’t get to pretend you’re his father now.”

Daniel froze.

The words hurt more than any punishment.

“I made a mistake.”

Claire looked at him.

“No.”

Her voice was quiet.

“But you made a choice.”

Silence filled the room.

Then Claire reached into her bag and pulled out a small envelope.

Daniel frowned.

“What is that?”

Claire looked away.

“Something I found three months ago.”

Inside were printed messages.

Photos.

Hotel receipts.

Evidence of his affair.

Daniel’s face changed.

“You knew?”

“Yes.”

“Then why didn’t you leave me?”

Claire looked through the glass at Noah.

“Because I wanted my son to have his father.”

May you like

A tear fell down her cheek.

“But you proved I was protecting the wrong person.”
