Chapter 5: The Child They Hid From Emma

Chapter 5: The Child They Hid From Emma
Emma read the final sentence again.
Then again.
Her mind refused to understand the words.
"Lily is not the only child connected to the Anderson family..."
For seven years, she had believed she knew the worst pain life could give her.
Ryan leaving.
Victoria humiliating her.
Raising Lily alone.
Building an empire while pretending to be invisible.
But now...
She wondered if she had only known half the truth.
"What does this mean?"
Her voice was barely a whisper.
Ryan stood across from her.
His face was pale.
"I don't know."
But Emma noticed something.
A hesitation.
A small reaction.
Like there was something he wasn't saying.
And that hurt more than anything.
"Ryan."
Her voice became colder.
"Do you know something?"
"No."
He answered too quickly.
Emma stared at him.
Seven years ago, she believed every word he said.
Now...
She saw every hesitation.
Every lie.
Every hidden emotion.
"You're lying."
Ryan looked away.
"I swear, Emma, I don't know what that letter means."
Before she could respond...
A sound came from the hallway.
Someone dropped a glass.
They both turned.
Victoria stood there.
Her face had lost all color.
She had heard everything.
"Mother."
Ryan stepped toward her.
"You knew about this?"
Victoria didn't answer.
Her silence was terrifying.
Emma walked closer.
For years, Victoria had made her feel powerless.
But not anymore.
"Tell me the truth."
Victoria looked at Emma.
For the first time...
She wasn't looking down at her.
She was afraid of her.
"You should leave this alone."
Emma almost laughed.
"Leave it alone?"
Her voice trembled with anger.
"You stole seven years of my life."
Victoria's eyes narrowed.
"You don't understand what happened."
"No."
Emma stepped forward.
"I understand perfectly."
She held up the letter.
"You decided I wasn't good enough for your family."
Victoria's expression changed.
"You were not supposed to find this."
Emma froze.
Not supposed to find this.
Those words confirmed everything.
"You hid it."
Victoria remained silent.
"Why?"
No answer.
Emma's voice became louder.
"Why did you destroy my relationship with Ryan?"
Victoria finally spoke.
"Because I knew what you would become."
Everyone froze.
Emma frowned.
"What?"
Victoria looked at her.
"You were never ordinary."
A strange silence filled the room.
"You think I hated you because you were poor?"
Emma didn't answer.
Victoria shook her head.
"I hated you because Ryan was willing to choose you over us."
Ryan stared at his mother.
"What are you saying?"
Victoria ignored him.
"When I investigated you years ago, I found out who your father was."
Emma's expression changed.
"My father?"
Victoria nodded.
"You weren't just a normal girl."
Emma felt her stomach tighten.
"Who was he?"
Victoria looked away.
"Someone powerful."
"Who?"
But Victoria didn't answer.
Instead, she whispered:
"Someone who would destroy this family if he knew what we did."
That night, Emma couldn't sleep.
Too many questions.
Too many missing pieces.
She sat beside Lily's bed, watching her daughter breathe.
Seven years.
She had protected Lily from everything.
But what if she had been protecting her from the wrong danger?
She opened the letter again.
There was something she missed.
A small handwritten note on the back.
"Ask about the blue room."
Emma frowned.
The blue room?
She had lived in the Anderson mansion for years.
But she had never heard of a blue room.
She stood up.
Quietly.
And walked through the dark hallway.
The Anderson mansion was enormous.
Hundreds of rooms.
Most of them unused.
But Emma remembered something.
A locked door on the third floor.
A door Victoria always kept closed.
She reached it.
The door was painted dark blue.
Her heart started racing.
The blue room.
She touched the handle.
Locked.
Then...
A voice behind her.
"You shouldn't be here."
Emma turned.
Victoria stood in the hallway.
But this time...
She wasn't angry.
She looked scared.
"What is inside?"
Victoria said nothing.
Emma stepped closer.
"What did you hide from me?"
Victoria's eyes filled with regret.
"Emma..."
For the first time, Victoria said her name softly.
Not as an insult.
Not as a command.
As if she was speaking to someone she had hurt deeply.
"Open that door, and nothing will ever be the same."
Emma looked at the lock.
"Good."
She pulled out her phone.
"I stopped wanting the old life seven years ago."
Victoria's face changed.
"Emma..."
She continued.
"But I will not let anyone steal another day from my daughter."
The next morning...
Emma arrived at Carter Global headquarters.
Her assistant immediately noticed something was wrong.
"Ms. Carter?"
Emma placed a file on the table.
"I need everything."
"Everything?"
"Background checks. Medical records. Anderson family history. Every financial connection from seven years ago."
Her assistant hesitated.
"Are you sure?"
Emma looked out the window.
At the city she built.
At the empire she created alone.
"I spent seven years letting people decide my story."
Her eyes hardened.
"Now I write the ending."
Meanwhile...
Ryan returned to his office.
He couldn't stop thinking about Emma.
About Lily.
About the years he lost.
Then his assistant entered.
"Mr. Anderson."
Ryan looked up.
"We found something strange."
"What?"
The assistant placed a folder on the desk.
"Seven years ago, there was another hospital record connected to your family."
Ryan opened it.
His face changed.
Because inside was a birth certificate.
Not Lily's.
Another child's.
And the name on the document...
Made his blood run cold.
Ryan Anderson was listed as the father.
But the child's mother...
Was not Emma.
Ryan slowly looked up.
And for the first time in his life...
He felt the same fear Emma had carried for seven years.
Someone had been controlling his life.
Someone had been lying.
May you like
And that person was much closer than he ever imagined.
To be continued...
