Chapter 3: The Secret Ryan Never Knew

Chapter 3: The Secret Ryan Never Knew

Ryan Anderson had built his entire life on one belief.

That Emma Carter was desperate.

That she needed him.

That she was a woman who had nothing without him.

For seven years, that belief protected his pride.

But now...

Sitting across from her in the Carter Global boardroom, that belief was shattered.

Emma wasn't desperate.

She wasn't broken.

She wasn't waiting for him to come back.

She was the person everyone else was waiting for.

The person who could decide whether his company survived or disappeared.

"Mr. Anderson."

Emma's voice brought him back.

"We are here to discuss Anderson Enterprises' financial situation."

Ryan looked at her.

Trying to find the woman he remembered.

The woman who loved him.

The woman who cried when he walked away.

But she wasn't there anymore.

The woman in front of him was someone completely different.

Professional.

Calm.

Powerful.

"I... I didn't know."

The words escaped before he could stop them.

Emma raised an eyebrow.

"Didn't know what?"

Ryan swallowed.

"That you became..."

He couldn't finish the sentence.

A billionaire.

A CEO.

Someone far beyond him.

Emma looked down at the documents.

"That I survived?"

Ryan froze.

The room became uncomfortable.

The executives silently watched.

Emma opened the folder.

"Seven years ago, you made a decision about me without knowing the truth."

Ryan looked away.

"Emma..."

"No."

Her voice wasn't loud.

But it stopped him.

"You don't get to explain now."

For the first time, Ryan saw something he had never seen before.

Not anger.

Pain.

A pain she had carried alone.

Seven years earlier...

Emma remembered the night everything changed.

She had stood outside Ryan's apartment holding a small white envelope.

Inside was the first ultrasound picture of their baby.

She had imagined his reaction.

A smile.

A hug.

Maybe tears of happiness.

Instead...

The door opened.

Ryan stood there.

Cold.

Distant.

"What do you want?"

Emma looked at him.

Her eyes were full of hope.

"I'm pregnant."

Silence.

A few seconds passed.

Then Ryan laughed.

Not happily.

Cruelly.

"Is that your plan?"

Emma frowned.

"What?"

"To trap me?"

Her heart broke.

"What are you talking about?"

Ryan stepped closer.

"My family has money, Emma. You knew that from the beginning."

Tears filled her eyes.

"You think I did this for money?"

"I don't know what to think anymore."

Those words hurt more than anything.

Because they came from the person she trusted most.

"I love you."

She whispered.

Ryan looked away.

"I don't love you enough to ruin my future."

That sentence stayed with her forever.

Back in the present...

Ryan lowered his head.

"I was wrong."

Emma didn't react.

"I made the biggest mistake of my life."

Emma closed the folder.

"No."

Ryan looked up.

"No?"

"You made many mistakes."

Her eyes became colder.

"You just finally noticed this one because you need something from me."

The words hit harder than any insult.

Because they were true.

That evening, Ryan returned to the Anderson mansion.

But something was different.

He looked at Emma differently.

Not as a maid.

Not as someone beneath him.

But as someone he had lost.

Victoria immediately noticed.

"What happened?"

Ryan didn't answer.

He walked into his office.

Closed the door.

And searched Emma Carter online.

For the first time.

The results appeared.

Emma Carter — Founder of Carter Global.

Youngest female entrepreneur to build a billion-dollar technology empire.

Estimated company value: $18.7 billion.

Ryan stared at the screen.

His hands slowly tightened.

The woman he abandoned...

Had become one of the most powerful people in America.

But then another article caught his attention.

A photo.

Emma.

Seven years ago.

Pregnant.

Standing outside a charity event.

The headline:

"Former Carter Global Founder Disappears From Public Life After Personal Scandal."

Ryan clicked.

And his face changed.

Because the article mentioned something he never knew.

Emma had not disappeared because she failed.

She disappeared because she became a single mother.

Meanwhile...

Across the mansion, Victoria was having a private conversation.

With someone Ryan never expected.

"Are you sure she knows nothing?"

A man's voice asked through the phone.

Victoria looked toward Emma's room.

"She thinks she has control now."

The man laughed.

"She can't discover the truth."

Victoria's expression became serious.

"She cannot know what happened seven years ago."

A pause.

Then the man answered:

"If Emma finds out Lily is not the only thing we hid from her..."

Victoria's face turned pale.

"Stop talking."

The call ended.

But Emma, standing silently outside the hallway, had heard enough.

Not everything.

Only one sentence.

"She cannot know what happened seven years ago."

Her heart started racing.

Seven years ago.

The year Ryan left her.

The year Lily was born.

The year everyone told her to forget.

Emma slowly stepped back.

For the first time in seven years...

She felt afraid.

Because maybe...

The biggest betrayal of her life had not come from Ryan.

Maybe someone else had been controlling everything from the beginning.

She looked toward Lily's bedroom.

And whispered:

"What did they do to us?"

The next morning...

Emma opened an old locked box she had kept hidden for seven years.

Inside were memories she thought she would never need again.

A hospital bracelet.

A baby photograph.

And a letter.

A letter she had never opened.

Because it was delivered after Lily was born.

The sender's name made her freeze.

Victoria Anderson.

Emma's hands trembled.

Why would Victoria send her a letter?

And why did she hide it for seven years?

She slowly opened it.

The first sentence changed everything.

"Emma, if you are reading this, it means I failed to keep the truth hidden..."

Emma stopped breathing.

May you like

Because underneath the sentence was a secret that could destroy the entire Anderson family.

To be continued...
