Chapter 1: The Maid Nobody Saw

Chapter 1: The Maid Nobody Saw
For seven years, Emma Carter learned how to disappear.
Not physically.
Emotionally.
Inside the Anderson mansion, she moved through rooms worth millions of dollars like a shadow nobody wanted to notice.
Every morning at six o'clock, before the sun touched the massive glass windows of the mansion, Emma put on the same beige uniform, tied her hair back, and picked up her cleaning supplies.
To everyone inside the house...
She was just a maid.
A servant.
Someone who existed to make their lives easier.
"Emma."
The sharp voice came from behind her.
She stopped polishing the marble floor and slowly turned around.
Victoria Anderson stood at the entrance of the living room, wearing a designer dress that probably cost more than Emma's entire monthly salary.
The older woman looked at the freshly cleaned floor.
Then at Emma.
"You missed a spot."
Emma looked down.
The floor was perfectly clean.
But she simply nodded.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Anderson. I'll clean it again."
Victoria smiled coldly.
That smile was not kindness.
It was satisfaction.
"You know, some people should understand their position in life."
Emma's hand tightened around the cloth.
But her expression remained calm.
"I understand."
Victoria stepped closer.
"No, I don't think you do."
She looked Emma up and down.
"You were lucky Ryan allowed you to work here after everything that happened."
Emma's eyes moved slightly.
Ryan.
Seven years.
Seven years since that name had meant love.
Now...
It only reminded her of betrayal.
Before Emma could answer, footsteps echoed across the hallway.
Ryan Anderson walked into the room.
Tall.
Handsome.
Successful.
The same man who once promised he would love her forever.
But now...
He looked at her like she was a stranger.
"Mother, what's going on?"
Victoria immediately changed her expression.
"Nothing, sweetheart. I was just reminding Emma about expectations."
Ryan glanced at Emma.
For one second, their eyes met.
And Emma saw it.
Not love.
Not regret.
Nothing.
Only indifference.
"Emma, make sure dinner is ready tonight. We have important guests coming."
She lowered her head.
"Of course."
Ryan walked away.
Just like he had seven years ago.
Without looking back.
That night, Emma stood alone in the mansion kitchen preparing dinner for people who would never ask about her life.
She carefully arranged expensive plates.
Expensive wine.
Expensive food.
A world she once belonged to.
A world she created.
But nobody knew.
Nobody knew that seven years ago...
Emma Carter wasn't cleaning tables.
She was signing billion-dollar contracts.
She wasn't serving wealthy people.
She was one of them.
Actually...
She was above most of them.
Carter Global.
A company she built from nothing.
A company that became one of America's largest technology empires.
And the CEO?
Emma Carter.
The woman everyone now called a maid.
Her phone vibrated.
She looked around before checking the message.
A news article appeared.
"Anderson Enterprises Faces Financial Crisis After Failed Investments."
Emma stared at the screen.
Ryan's company.
The company his father built.
The company that once made Ryan believe he was untouchable.
Another message appeared.
From her assistant.
"Ms. Carter, Carter Global's board meeting is tomorrow. Everyone is waiting for your decision regarding Anderson Enterprises."
Emma locked the phone.
Seven years ago...
Ryan left her because he thought she wanted his money.
He told her she was trying to trap him with a baby.
He walked away from her while she was pregnant with Lily.
And now...
The same man needed help from the woman he abandoned.
Emma looked toward the mansion hallway.
Where Ryan's voice echoed with laughter.
A man who had everything.
Until he lost it.
She whispered quietly:
"You never knew who you walked away from."
The next morning, something unexpected happened.
Ryan received a call.
Emma watched from across the room as his confident expression slowly changed.
"What do you mean Carter Global agreed to a meeting?"
Silence.
Then Ryan stood up.
"Who is the CEO?"
Emma watched him carefully.
The answer came through the phone.
Ryan's face changed.
"The CEO's name is Emma Carter."
The room became silent.
But Ryan didn't notice Emma standing behind him.
Not yet.
Because he still believed Emma Carter...
Was just a maid.
And in a few hours...
May you like
He was going to discover the biggest mistake of his life.
To be continued...
