Chapter 7 — The Truth Grant Could Never Escape

A year later, Grant requested one final meeting.
I almost refused.
But I agreed.
He looked older.
Tired.
“I spent a year blaming you.”
I said nothing.
“But I finally realized something.”
He looked down.
“You were the only person who ever believed I could become better.”
The honesty surprised me.
“I waited for you to choose me.”
He swallowed.
“But I chose power instead.”
For once…
Grant admitted the truth.
“I’m sorry.”
I believed he meant it.
But forgiveness didn’t mean returning.
“I forgive you.”
His eyes lifted.
“But forgiveness doesn’t erase consequences.”
He nodded.
Because he finally understood.
