Chapter 4 — The Fall of Grant Holloway

The next morning, the Holloway name was everywhere.

But not for the reasons they wanted.

News reports.

Financial investigations.

Court documents.

The empire Grant had built his reputation on began collapsing within hours.

His investors disappeared.

His partners abandoned him.

The same people who once praised him suddenly refused to answer his calls.

Because power was never loyalty.

Power was fear.

And once people stopped fearing you…

they left.

Grant came to my office three days later.

For the first time, he looked ordinary.

No expensive suit.

No arrogant smile.

Just a broken man.

“You ruined me.”

I looked up from my desk.

“No.”

He stepped closer.

“You destroyed my life.”

I shook my head.

“Grant, you destroyed your own life.”

His eyes became desperate.

“I loved you.”

I almost believed him.

Almost.

But then I remembered the soup.

The laughter.

The years of silence.

“You loved having control over me.”

I stood.

“You never loved me.”

He looked away.

May you like

Because deep down…

he knew.
