Chapter 8 - THE MAN WHO WANTED LORENZO SILENT

The next morning, Lorenzo was different.
More focused.
Stronger.
Like remembering Daniel had brought back something inside him.
“I need to leave this room,” he said.
The doctor immediately shook his head.
“Absolutely not.”
Lorenzo ignored him.
“I have spent forty-nine days lying here.”
“You almost died.”
“And someone wanted me to.”
The room went quiet.
Nobody argued after that.
Because everyone knew.
Lorenzo Moretti was awake now.
And awake meant dangerous.
I watched him carefully.
“You think Victor caused the accident?”
Lorenzo looked at me.
“I think Victor knows more than he admits.”
“Why?”
“Because Daniel disappeared after confronting him.”
My chest tightened.
“Confronting him about what?”
Lorenzo looked toward the window.
“The truth about our family.”
That afternoon, Isabella brought an old box.
“It belonged to Daniel.”
I opened it slowly.
Inside were photographs.
Documents.
Letters.
And a small music player.
My hands froze.
“What is this?”
Lorenzo looked at it.
“That song.”
I pressed the button.
A soft melody filled the room.
The same melody Mia sang.
I looked at Lorenzo.
“How did my daughter know this?”
Nobody answered.
Then Isabella whispered:
“Because Daniel taught it to her.”
I turned.
“What?”
Isabella looked guilty.
“Before he disappeared, Daniel visited you.”
I shook my head.
“No.”
“He did.”
“He never came back.”
“Clara…”
Her voice softened.
“He came back many times.”
My eyes filled with tears.
“Why didn’t I know?”
Then Lorenzo said something that broke me.
“Because someone made sure you forgot.”
I looked at him.
“What does that mean?”
He didn’t answer.
Instead, he showed me a document.
A hospital record.
My name was on it.
My signature.
But I had never seen it before.
“What is this?”
Lorenzo looked at me.
“After Daniel disappeared, someone convinced you he was gone forever.”
My breathing became uneven.
“No.”
“They manipulated your memories.”
I shook my head.
“That’s impossible.”
But the signature...
was mine.
Before I could process everything, alarms suddenly sounded.
Everyone turned.
A nurse rushed inside.
“Mr. Moretti!”
“What happened?”
Her face was pale.
“The security system detected someone inside the east wing.”
Lorenzo’s expression changed.
“Who?”
The nurse swallowed.
“Victor Hale.”
The entire estate went into lockdown.
Doors closed.
Security rushed through the halls.
Mia was with Elena.
I tried to reach her.
But the power suddenly went out.
The mansion became completely dark.
Then I heard something.
A whisper.
Right behind me.
“Clara.”
May you like
I turned.
Victor was standing there.
