Chapter 11 – The Shot in the Dark

The gunshot echoed across the estate.

Every light inside the mansion remained dark.

Grace instinctively pulled Oliver behind a row of overgrown hedges.

"Stay down."

Rain pounded against the glass greenhouse.

Sirens grew louder.

Security guards rushed toward the front entrance.

Then another sound cut through the chaos.

Nathan shouted Isabella's name.

Grace looked toward the mansion.

"We have to move."

Oliver grabbed her sleeve.

"My dad isn't the bad guy."

"I know."

"But someone wants us to believe he is."

Grace unfolded the note again.

Nathan's signature was genuine.

The words, however, felt wrong.

The letter claimed Nathan had agreed to send Oliver away for psychiatric treatment.

It made no sense.

The loving father she had known for twelve years would never abandon his son.

She flipped the paper over.

A faint watermark appeared in the rain.

It wasn't a personal letter.

It had been printed on paper from Sterling Developments.

Someone had copied Nathan's signature onto an official company document.

The confession was fake.

Someone wanted Oliver to find it.

Someone wanted him to hate his father.

May you like

Grace folded the paper.

"We're going to tell Nathan everything."
