Chapter 14 - The Heirs Speak

Six months later, the court hearing began.

The courtroom was packed.

Reporters waited outside.

DNA testing had confirmed what Marisol already knew.

Valentina and Lucia were identical twins.

Diego Villaseñor was their biological father.

Marisol Robles was their biological mother.

The original trust was valid.

Technically, the girls now controlled the largest voting block in the Villaseñor empire.

Through guardians and court supervision, of course.

Everyone expected Diego to challenge it.

He did not.

When the judge asked whether he contested his daughters’ inheritance, Diego stood.

“No, Your Honor.”

His attorney looked nervous.

Diego continued.

“My daughters have already had enough stolen from them.”

“I won’t steal anything else.”

Across the courtroom, Mercedes lowered her eyes.

Paulina sat beside her attorneys.

Rafael refused to look at anyone.

The judge confirmed the trust.

Outside, reporters surrounded Diego.

“Mr. Villaseñor, have you lost control of your company?”

Diego looked toward Valentina and Lucia.

“No.”

“I found my family.”

Another reporter shouted.

“Will your daughters become the youngest heirs in Villaseñor history?”

Valentina leaned toward Lucia.

“What’s an heir?”

Lucia shrugged.

“Probably something boring.”

Diego laughed.

It was the first time reporters had seen him laugh in months.

Then Valentina noticed someone standing beyond the crowd.

An elderly man.

He held a small envelope.

He disappeared when security approached.

Inside the envelope was one final photograph.

Two newborn girls.

Marisol.

Elena.

And Diego’s father standing secretly outside the hospital room.

On the back was a handwritten message.

I found them before I died.

I only wish I had been brave enough to tell my son.

Diego stared at the words.

His father had known.

Not everything.

But enough.

And somewhere between guilt and fear, he had tried to repair what his family had broken.

Diego folded the photograph.

He did not need another investigation.

Some secrets deserved exposure.

May you like

Others deserved to become warnings.

This one would become both.
