Chapter 6 - THE MAN WHO WANTED MY SON DEAD

I ran.

I don’t remember crossing the hallway.

I don’t remember pushing people aside.

All I remember was Leo.

My son.

My only family.

The nursery door was open.

Hannah was already inside.

She was holding him.

The monitor was screaming.

“What happened?”

The nurse rushed forward.

“He suddenly stopped breathing properly.”

My eyes went to Hannah.

She looked terrified.

“I didn’t do anything.”

“I know.”

The words came out before I could stop them.

Everyone looked at me.

Because a few days ago, I would have blamed her first.

But something had changed.

I believed her.

Doctors rushed in.

They worked on Leo.

Seconds felt like hours.

Then finally…

the monitor stabilized.

Everyone breathed again.

I walked out of the room.

My hands were shaking.

Marcus approached.

“Sir.”

“What?”

His face was serious.

“We found something.”

He handed me a small evidence bag.

Inside was a tiny device.

A hidden transmitter.

“What is this?”

“It was placed inside Leo’s room.”

My jaw tightened.

“Who found it?”

Marcus looked toward Hannah.

“She did.”

I looked back.

Hannah stood in the doorway.

She looked exhausted.

But calm.

“She noticed something was wrong with the monitor signal.”

I stared at her.

Again.

She had saved him.

Again.

Then my phone rang.

Unknown number.

I answered.

Matteo.

“You’re protecting her now?”

My blood went cold.

“How do you know about Hannah?”

A pause.

Then laughter.

“I know everything inside that house.”

I looked around.

Someone was watching.

Someone had access.

“You’re closer than I thought.”

Matteo continued.

“Send the girl away.”

“No.”

The answer came instantly.

“You don’t understand.”

His voice became darker.

“She is the only witness who can destroy your family.”

I froze.

“What does that mean?”

“You’ll find out soon.”

The call ended.

I looked at Hannah.

She looked back at me.

And suddenly, I understood.

She wasn’t just a housekeeper who accidentally saved my son.

She was connected to this.

Somehow.

Somewhere.

The question was…

was she the person who could save my family?

Or was she the person who could destroy it?

Then Marcus walked toward me holding another file.

“Sir…”

His voice was quiet.

“You need to see this.”

I opened it.

Inside was a photograph.

A photograph taken years ago.

My father.

My mother.

And a young woman standing beside them.

A woman holding a baby.

The baby had a name written underneath.

Hannah Hayes.

My entire body went cold.

May you like

Because the woman I thought was a stranger…

was never a stranger at all.
