Darkness surrounded us.
For a few seconds, nobody moved.
Then chaos exploded.
Gunshots.
Shouting.
Footsteps everywhere.
I grabbed Leo and pulled him close.
My entire world became one thing.

“Hannah!”
“I’m here!”
Her voice came from the darkness.
I heard someone moving toward her.

“Stay away from her!”

Matteo looked away.

My voice became cold.

He pushed Leo’s carrier away from danger.
A gunshot fired.

“Daniel!”

“What did you do?”
Daniel smiled weakly.
“What I should have done years ago.”
He looked at Hannah.
“Protect my family.”

“What?”

Daniel nodded.
