Chapter 3 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH

“Mom?”

My voice echoed through the nursery.

Everyone froze.

My mother, Isabella Rossi, stood beside Leo’s crib.

Elegant.

Calm.

Perfectly dressed.

Like she wasn’t standing in the middle of a medical emergency.

“What are you doing here?”

She smiled softly.

“I came to see my grandson.”

I looked at the monitor.

Then at her.

“Why did his heart rate drop when you entered?”

Her expression changed for half a second.

Only half a second.

But I saw it.

Fear.

“Don’t be ridiculous, Lorenzo.”

“I asked a question.”

She looked offended.

“You think I would hurt my own grandson?”

I wanted to believe she was insulted.

I wanted to believe she was innocent.

But after the security footage…

after the nurse…

after everything…

I trusted nobody.

Not even family.

Hannah stood quietly near the wall.

My mother noticed her.

And her face immediately hardened.

“What is she doing here?”

“She helped Leo.”

My mother laughed.

“A housekeeper?”

The way she said it made my blood boil.

“She saved him.”

“That is impossible.”

“Is it?”

Silence.

My mother looked at Leo.

Then at Hannah.

Something passed between them.

A look.

Quick.

But clear.

They knew each other.

I stepped forward.

“Have you met Hannah before?”

“No.”

The answer came too fast.

I knew.

She was lying.

Before I could question her, the doctor interrupted.

“Mr. Rossi, we need to stabilize Leo.”

I looked back at my son.

His tiny hand was moving.

Weakly.

But moving.

I walked closer.

For the first time in days…

I touched his fingers.

And he grabbed mine.

I almost broke.

Because that was the first time my son had held my hand.

“Dad’s here,” I whispered.

My voice cracked.

“I’m right here.”

Behind me, Hannah watched silently.

And for some reason…

I felt like she understood my pain better than anyone.

Later that evening, I ordered my security team to investigate everything.

The nurse.

The staff.

The cameras.

Everyone.

And what they found shocked me.

The nurse had been paid.

A large amount of money.

The payment came from an account hidden behind several companies.

But the final owner of the money…

was connected to someone inside my family.

Someone who wanted Leo gone.

Someone who wanted the Rossi fortune.

At midnight, I received another message.

An unknown number.

One sentence.

“If you want your son alive, send the maid away.”

I stared at the screen.

My eyes moved toward Hannah, who was sitting beside Leo’s nursery door.

She was watching over him.

The woman everyone ignored.

The woman nobody trusted.

The woman who saved my son.

And now someone wanted her gone.

But the question was…

why?

Because they were afraid of what she knew?

Or because they knew she was the only person standing between them and their plan?

I looked at Hannah.

Then at the message.

And I made a decision.

A decision that would change everything.

I would protect her.

May you like

But first…

I needed to discover who was trying to kill my son.
