Chapter 15 - THE FAMILY WE CHOSE

Six months later, the Rossi mansion felt different.
For the first time in years…
it felt like a home.
Not a fortress.
Not a prison.
A home.
Leo was stronger.
Healthier.
And every morning, he woke up smiling.
The doctors called him a miracle.
I called him my second chance.
I stood outside the garden watching Hannah hold him.
She wasn’t the quiet housekeeper anymore.
She wasn’t the woman everyone ignored.
She was the woman who saved my son.
The woman who uncovered the truth.
The woman who showed me that family was not always about blood.
Sometimes…
family was about who stayed when everything fell apart.
“You’re thinking too loudly.”
I smiled.
Hannah walked beside me.
“I do that?”
“All the time.”
She laughed softly.
It was the first time I had heard that sound.
A real laugh.
Not a forced one.
Not a polite one.
A happy one.
“How are you feeling?”
She looked at Leo.
“Still scared sometimes.”
“Of what?”
“Losing everything again.”
I understood.
Because I had lived with that fear.
I looked at her.
“You won’t.”
She smiled.
“You can’t promise that.”
“Yes, I can.”
She looked at me.
“Why?”
“Because this time, you’re not alone.”
For a moment, neither of us spoke.
Then Leo reached toward Hannah.
She picked him up.
And he smiled.
A smile that reminded me of Sophia.
A smile that hurt.
But also healed.
Later that year, Hannah officially took her place in the Rossi family.
Not because of money.
Not because of inheritance.
Because she deserved to know the truth.
She deserved the name she was denied.
She deserved the family she lost.
And I learned something I never understood before.
A person’s worth is not measured by their wealth.
Not by their last name.
Not by their power.
The person everyone ignored can become the person who saves everyone.
Hannah Hayes entered my mansion as a housekeeper.
She left as the woman who changed the Rossi family forever.
And every night, when I look at my son sleeping peacefully, I remember the moment I almost made the biggest mistake of my life.
I pointed a gun at the woman who saved my child.
I thought she was stealing my son.
But the truth was much harder to accept.
She wasn’t taking him away from me.
She was bringing him back to me.
And she gave me something money never could.
May you like
A reason to believe in tomorrow.
