Police began interviewing witnesses.
Evelyn expected her son to defend her.
Instead...
Daniel handed detectives his phone.
"I recorded part of the argument before she pushed Emily."
The room fell silent.
Evelyn stared at him.
"You betrayed your own mother?"
Daniel answered quietly.
"No."
"You betrayed this family."
"You did."
That single sentence shattered twenty years of control.
Evelyn slapped him.
The detective immediately stepped between them.
