Chapter 1 - Blood on Marble
Daniel Carter ignored every scream behind him as he carried Emily Brooks into the Beverly Hills Emergency Center.
Blood dripped steadily from Emily's head onto the polished white marble floor.
His mother, Evelyn Carter, stumbled after him.
"Daniel! Put her back in the car! If the police see her, they'll destroy this family!"
Every patient in the lobby turned.
The emergency physician rushed forward.
"Severe head trauma! Trauma Bay One!"
Daniel laid Emily onto the stretcher.
Only then did he turn toward his mother.
His voice was almost calm.
"You pushed her."
Evelyn shook her head violently.
"It was an accident."
Daniel slowly looked toward the hallway ceiling.
"So... let's see what the cameras say."
