Chapter 9 - RACHEL’S CONFESSION

The gate opened.
Rachel dove through.
The SUV slammed into the iron barrier.
Elias’s guards opened fire.
The vehicle reversed and disappeared.
Chloe ran outside.
Her mother collapsed into her arms.
“You’re alive.”
Rachel held her tightly.
“I’m sorry.”
Chloe pulled back and slapped her.
The sound cracked through the driveway.
Rachel stared.
Chloe immediately started crying.
“You left me.”
“I know.”
“You let me think you didn’t want me.”
“I know.”
“For four years!”
Rachel reached toward her.
Chloe stepped away.
“Don’t.”
Inside, Rachel told them everything.
Twenty-four years earlier, she worked for Victor.
She discovered millions disappearing from Russo companies.
When she threatened to expose him, Victor threatened Chloe, who was still a baby.
Rachel stayed silent.
Years later, Sofia independently discovered the same fraud.
Sofia found Rachel.
Together, they started collecting evidence.
“Why didn’t you go to Dominic?” Chloe asked.
Rachel looked at him.
“Because Victor had spent years shaping you.”
Dominic’s jaw tightened.
She continued.
“Sofia believed you would kill first and investigate later.”
Dominic looked ashamed because he knew she was right.
Rachel disappeared after Sofia’s death because Victor came after Chloe.
“I made him think you knew nothing.”
“You abandoned me to protect me?”
“Yes.”
“That doesn’t make it hurt less.”
“I know.”
Luca quietly approached Rachel.
“Did you know my mommy?”
Rachel’s eyes filled with tears.
“Yes.”
“Was she brave?”
“The bravest person I ever knew.”
Luca smiled.
Dominic turned away.
Rachel reached into her coat.
“I kept one thing Victor never found.”
A small recording device.
She pressed play.
Victor’s voice filled the room.
“Sofia should’ve stayed out of my business.”
Then another man spoke.
“What about the kid?”
Victor answered.
“If the explosion works, both problems disappear.”
Dominic surged to his feet.
Chloe grabbed his arm.
“Don’t.”
“He ordered my son murdered.”
“And now we can prove it.”
Rachel nodded.
“Not yet.”
Everyone looked at her.
“The recording establishes intent, but Victor’s lawyers will attack the chain of custody.”
Dominic laughed bitterly.
“Lawyers?”
“Yes.”
Rachel stared at him.
“You can kill him.”
The room went quiet.
“And tomorrow someone else takes his place.”
She pointed at Luca.
“Or you can destroy everything he built.”
Dominic stared at the recorder.
“What do you need?”
“His financial ledger.”
Carlo asked, “Where is it?”
Rachel answered.
“Inside the Russo Foundation building.”
Dominic frowned.
“My charity headquarters?”
“Victor has used it as his private accounting hub for years.”
“Security?”
“His men.”
Dominic smiled without humor.
“Not for long.”
Chloe shook her head.
“You’re not going alone.”
Dominic looked at her.
“You’re staying here.”
“No.”
“That wasn’t a request.”
“I don’t care.”
Rachel suddenly said, “Chloe has to go.”
Dominic’s eyes narrowed.
“Why?”
May you like
Rachel looked at her daughter.
“Because the vault is registered to her fingerprint.”
