Chapter 13 - LUCA TAKEN

Dominic reached Elias’s house in twelve minutes.
The front gate had been blown open.
One guard was dead.
Another unconscious.
Elias stood in the foyer with blood on his shirt.
Dominic grabbed him.
“Where is my son?”
“I don’t know.”
“You were supposed to protect him!”
“I know!”
Chloe ran upstairs.
Luca’s bedroom was empty.
The window had been forced open.
On the bed sat a folded note.
She opened it.
BRING THE ORIGINAL LEDGER. COME ALONE. NAVY PIER. MIDNIGHT.
Dominic read it.
“I’m going.”
Chloe blocked him.
“No.”
He stared.
“They have my son.”
“And they want you emotional.”
“They have my son!”
“I know!”
Her voice broke.
Dominic froze.
Chloe forced herself calmer.
“Victor was arrested.”
“Someone else is running this.”
Carlo entered.
“I know who.”
Everyone turned.
“Who?”
Carlo looked at Dominic.
“Your brother.”
Dominic went still.
“My brother is dead.”
“No.”
Carlo shook his head.
“Marco survived the warehouse bombing.”
Dominic stared.
“That’s impossible.”
“Victor hid him.”
“Why?”
“Because Marco helped organize it.”
The room went silent.
Dominic looked physically ill.
His older brother.
The man Dominic had mourned for eighteen years.
The death that started the Russo-Kane war.
Carlo continued.
“Victor needed you to believe Kane killed Marco.”
“So he created a martyr.”
“Yes.”
“And Marco agreed?”
“He hated you.”
Dominic laughed once, bitterly.
“Apparently everyone did.”
Chloe stepped closer.
“Not everyone.”
He looked at her.
For a second, the rage disappeared.
Then his phone buzzed.
A video.
Luca sat tied to a chair.
Crying.
A man stepped behind him.
Scar across one cheek.
Dominic whispered.
“Marco.”
The man smiled into the camera.
“Hello, little brother.”
Dominic’s hand shook.
Marco leaned toward Luca.
“Midnight.”
He pressed a gun against the boy’s shoulder.
“Bring the ledger.”
May you like
“Or this time…”
“…Sofia’s son dies with her secret.”
