Chapter 11 - VICTOR’S HOSTAGE

Victor dragged Chloe into a private conference room.
Dominic followed seconds later.
His gun was raised.
“Let her go.”
Victor smiled.
“You’ve gotten predictable.”
The gun pressed harder against Chloe.
Dominic’s voice dropped.
“If you hurt her—”
“What?”
Victor laughed.
“You’ll kill me?”
“Yes.”
“Then she dies first.”
Dominic stopped.
Chloe could see the rage in his face.
But this time he controlled it.
Sofia’s words had changed him.
Angry men don’t ask questions.
So Dominic asked one.
“Why Sofia?”
Victor’s smile disappeared.
“She was weak.”
“No.”
“She made you weak.”
“No.”
Victor tightened his grip on Chloe.
“She made you question me.”
“There it is.”
Dominic’s voice remained calm.
“You were afraid of her.”
Victor’s eyes flashed.
“You think I was afraid of a housewife?”
“I think you murdered a woman because she saw what you were.”
Victor shoved Chloe toward the table.
“You know what your problem has always been, Dominic?”
“I had an uncle.”
Victor laughed.
“You needed me.”
“You needed me angry.”
“I made you powerful.”
“You made me useful.”
Victor’s expression hardened.
Dominic continued.
“You started the Kane war.”
Silence.
“You stole from the family.”
Silence.
“You murdered Sofia.”
Victor smiled.
“And you never noticed.”
Dominic flinched.
That was what Victor wanted.
Chloe saw it.
“Dominic, don’t.”
Victor laughed.
“Yes.”
“Be angry.”
“Do what you always do.”
Dominic slowly lowered his weapon.
Victor’s smile widened.
Then Dominic dropped it.
The gun hit the floor.
Everyone froze.
Victor stared.
“What are you doing?”
“Choosing my son.”
Chloe understood before Victor did.
Carlo crashed through the side door.
Victor spun.
Chloe drove her elbow backward.
Victor’s gun fired into the ceiling.
Dominic tackled him.
They hit the table.
Victor punched Dominic.
Dominic hit him back.
Hard.
Again.
Again.
Victor collapsed.
Dominic raised his fist.
Chloe shouted.
“Stop!”
He froze.
Victor laughed through blood.
“You can’t do it anymore.”
Dominic stared down at him.
“No.”
He slowly stood.
“I can.”
He wiped blood from his mouth.
“I’m choosing not to.”
Police sirens screamed outside.
Victor’s smile vanished.
“What did you do?”
Dominic looked at Chloe.
She held up her phone.
The entire conversation had been recorded.
“Your mistake,” Chloe said, “was thinking the nanny wasn’t listening.”
Victor lunged toward her.
Carlo slammed him down.
Police entered.
Federal agents followed.
Rachel had sent the evidence directly to three agencies and six reporters at the same time.
Victor screamed as they cuffed him.
“You think this ends with me?”
Dominic watched him being dragged away.
Victor twisted back.
“You have no idea who else Sofia found!”
Dominic’s face changed.
“What does that mean?”
Victor laughed.
“She didn’t trust anyone.”
May you like
Then he looked directly at Carlo.
“Not even him.”
