Chapter 10 - SERENA CHANGES SIDES

Daniel didn’t move.

“Put it down, Serena.”

“No.”

“You’re making another mistake.”

Serena laughed bitterly.

“My mistake was believing you’d keep your promises.”

Victor stared at her.

“You threatened my child.”

Serena looked at him.

“Yes.”

“I did terrible things.”

“But I never planned to kill Ethan.”

Daniel rolled his eyes.

“She’s lying.”

Serena’s weapon remained steady.

“Daniel ordered Ethan’s death.”

“I was supposed to make Lily look responsible.”

“I dragged Ethan because Lily had him near the service exit.”

“I needed him away from Daniel’s man.”

Lily stared at her.

“You could have told me.”

“And you would have believed me?”

“No.”

“Exactly.”

Victor held up the ledger.

“Why did you want the trust?”

Serena’s face twisted.

“Because Daniel promised me control.”

“I thought it was money.”

“Then I found Amelia’s files.”

“That’s when I realized Daniel was cleaning up twenty years of crimes.”

Daniel suddenly moved.

A shot exploded.

Serena fell.

Lily screamed.

Victor tackled Daniel.

The gun slid across the floor.

Daniel punched Victor.

Victor drove him into a table.

Wood shattered.

Daniel grabbed a fireplace poker.

Before he could swing it, Lily kicked the gun toward Victor.

Victor grabbed it.

“Stop.”

Daniel froze.

Police flooded the estate.

Brooks entered first.

“Drop it, Cross.”

Daniel laughed.

“You think this ends anything?”

Brooks handcuffed him.

“It ends your evening.”

Paramedics rushed to Serena.

The bullet had struck her shoulder.

She would survive.

Victor ran to Ethan.

His son reached for him.

“Daddy.”

Victor held him so tightly Ethan protested.

“Ow.”

Victor immediately loosened his arms.

“Sorry.”

Lily laughed through her tears.

Victor looked at her bruised face.

“You okay?”

“I will be.”

Brooks approached.

“We got Daniel’s confession.”

“Attempted kidnapping.”

“Conspiracy.”

“And enough from those ledgers to reopen Amelia’s case.”

Victor looked at Daniel being led away.

For the first time in two years, he felt Amelia beside him.

Not as a ghost.

As a voice finally being heard.

Then Daniel stopped at the door.

He turned toward Victor.

“You still don’t know what happened the night Amelia died.”

Victor stared at him.

May you like

Daniel smiled.

“Ask your mother who was in the second car.”
