Chapter 2: The Secret Letter

The ballroom remained frozen.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

All eyes were on the little boy standing beneath the spotlight, holding onto the microphone as if it was the only thing keeping him from falling apart.

Daniel slowly walked toward Leo.

"Son... look at me."

But Leo stepped back.

That small movement hurt Daniel more than any accusation.

Because Leo had never been afraid of him before.

"Why didn't you tell me this earlier?" Daniel asked softly.

Leo wiped his tears.

"Because Mommy told me you wouldn't believe me."

The words struck harder than anything else.

Daniel looked toward Elena.

For years, he had trusted her.

He trusted her stories.

He trusted her tears.

He trusted every word she whispered when she told him Sarah had abandoned their family.

But now...

He wasn't sure what was real anymore.

"Leo," Elena finally spoke, forcing a calm smile. "You're confused. Someone has clearly filled your head with lies."

The guests looked between them.

But Leo shook his head.

"No."

His voice became stronger.

"I brought proof."

A murmur spread across the ballroom.

Daniel froze.

"Proof?"

Leo reached inside his tiny suit jacket and pulled out a folded piece of paper.

His hands trembled.

"I found this in Grandma Martha's room."

Daniel turned toward his mother.

Martha immediately looked away.

And that reaction said everything.

Daniel's heart sank.

"Mom?"

Martha said nothing.

"Mom... what is he talking about?"

The room became painfully quiet.

Then Leo slowly opened the paper.

"It's a letter my mom wrote to you."

Daniel stared.

"A letter?"

Leo nodded.

"She wrote it before she left."

Daniel felt his chest tighten.

Because Sarah had always said she tried to explain.

But he never listened.

He never gave her a chance.

Leo handed the letter to his father.

Daniel unfolded it.

And after reading the first sentence...

His entire world began to collapse.

"Daniel, if you are reading this, it means they finally allowed you to know the truth..."
