Chapter 1 — The Call at 2:17 A.M.

The phone rang at exactly 2:17 in the morning.
First Sergeant Marcus Vance had answered thousands of calls during his military career.
Some carried bad news.
Some carried impossible missions.
But none of them prepared him for the voice trembling on the other end.
“Dad…”
Marcus froze.
He knew that voice.
It was Lily.
His nine-year-old daughter.
But something was wrong.
Her breathing was uneven.
She sounded terrified.
“Lily? Where are you?”
For several seconds, there was only silence.
Then she whispered the words that would destroy Marcus’s entire world.
“My uncles hurt me.”
Marcus sat up instantly.
“What did you say?”
“They… they used something heavy…”
Her voice broke.
“Dad… I tried to cover my face.”
Marcus was already moving.
He grabbed his keys, his jacket, and rushed out of the house.
The drive to Sterling Falls Hospital felt endless.
When he entered the emergency room, he saw a doctor walking toward him with a serious expression.
“Are you Marcus Vance?”
“Yes.”
The doctor paused.
“I’m sorry.”
Those two words were enough.
Marcus followed him into the room.
And then he saw his daughter.
Small.
Broken.
Covered in bandages.
Both arms fractured.
Three ribs damaged.
One leg shattered.
Her fingers wrapped carefully because she had used them to protect herself.
Marcus had faced war zones.
He had watched people die.
But nothing hurt like seeing his little girl lying there.
“Dad…”
Lily opened her eyes.
Marcus rushed to her side.
“I’m here.”
She grabbed his hand weakly.
“Please don’t be angry.”
Marcus looked confused.
“Why?”
“Because they said nobody can stop them.”
The room went silent.
“Who said that?”
Lily looked away.
“My uncles.”
Marcus felt something inside him break.
Because the people who did this weren’t strangers.
They were family.
The Sterling family.
The most powerful name in town.
And Marcus realized something terrifying.

This wasn’t just an attack.
