CHAPTER 5 — THE TRUTH ABOUT MY MOTHER

Three days later I woke inside a private medical facility owned by my family's foundation.

Doctors had already treated every wound.

Two hundred lash marks covered my back.

The surgeon spoke softly.

"You survived because the whip narrowly missed your spine."

My father remained beside my bed.

There was something else weighing on him.

"I owe you another truth."

He handed me an old photograph.

My mother stood beside him.

Between them...

A younger version of Blackthorn Manor.

"This house..."

I whispered.

"It belonged to Mom."

He nodded.

"Your mother designed every room."

"She inherited the estate from your grandfather."

"When she died..."

"I transferred everything into your trust."

Tears rolled down my face.

Nathan hadn't only stolen my home.

He had desecrated my mother's legacy.

My father squeezed my hand.

May you like

"You stayed because you wanted justice."

"Now let me finish what you started."
