Chapter 7 - THE SECRET I COULDN'T REVEAL

The next morning, the story exploded.
Not online.
Not yet.
But inside my company.
People were whispering.
"Did Alexander fake his injury?"
"Was the accident a lie?"
"Can we trust him?"
Exactly what Vanessa wanted.
She couldn't defeat me with evidence.
So she attacked my character.
That was always her strength.
Making people question the truth.
I sat inside my office, looking at the city through the glass windows.
Robert stood beside my desk.
"She knows how to control the story."
I nodded.
"Yes."
"Are you going to explain everything?"
I stayed silent.
Because the answer was complicated.
If I told everyone the truth, I would expose Vanessa.
But I would also reveal that I manipulated everyone for months.
Including innocent people.
"I need another way."
Robert looked at me.
"Alexander, people may understand why you did it."
"Maybe."
I looked down.
"But they may never forgive how I did it."
Before Robert could answer, my phone rang.
It was Clara.
I picked up immediately.
"Clara?"
Her breathing was fast.
"Mr. Carter..."
"What happened?"
"I found something in the old storage room."
I stood.
"What?"
"A camera."
I froze.
"What kind of camera?"
"A hidden one."
My heart started beating faster.
"Where?"
"In your bedroom."
The room became silent.
Someone had been watching me.
Not just after the accident.
Before.
"Clara, don't touch anything."
"Too late."
My voice became serious.
"What did you do?"
"I removed the memory card."
I closed my eyes.
"Clara..."
"I'm sorry."
"No."
I took a breath.
"You did the right thing."
A few minutes later, Clara arrived.
She handed me the card.
Marcus connected it to the computer.
The first video appeared.
Date:
One month before the accident.
The camera showed my office.
Vanessa walked inside.
Then Daniel entered.
I watched silently.
They were talking.
About me.
About my company.
About my future.
Then Vanessa said something that made my blood run cold.
"Once Alexander is gone, everything will belong to us."
Daniel smiled.
But then Vanessa added:
"There is only one problem."
"What?"
"Clara."
The video paused.
My eyes moved to Clara.
She looked confused.
"What about me?"
I pressed play.
Vanessa's voice filled the room.
"She watches too much."
The screen went black.
And I knew.
Clara was not just a witness.
May you like
She was their next target.
