Chapter 10 - THE TRUTH ABOUT THE CRASH

For three months, I believed the accident was random.
A drunk driver.
A bad night.
A terrible coincidence.
But now...
I wasn't sure anymore.
I walked into my uncle Martin's office.
He looked surprised.
"Alexander."
I closed the door.
"We need to talk."
His smile disappeared.
"About what?"
"The accident."
Silence.
A long silence.
Then he looked away.
That was enough.
"You knew."
His shoulders dropped.
"I knew something was wrong."
"Explain."
Martin sat down.
"Your brakes were damaged before the crash."
My heart stopped.
"What?"
He looked guilty.
"I found out afterward."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
He looked at me.
"Because I was afraid."
"Of what?"
He didn't answer.
Because I already knew.
Everyone was afraid.
Afraid of losing money.
Afraid of losing power.
Afraid of standing against the people who were controlling everything.
Then Martin finally spoke.
"Alexander..."
His voice trembled.
"You weren't supposed to survive."
The room went cold.
I stared at him.
"What did you say?"
He looked at me with fear in his eyes.
"The accident wasn't meant to leave you disabled."
A pause.
"It was meant to kill you."
I couldn't breathe.
Because suddenly everything changed.
The wheelchair.
The betrayal.
The fake smiles.
The lies.
They weren't just waiting for me to fall.
Someone had tried to make sure I never got back up.
Then my phone rang.
It was Marcus.
His voice was urgent.
"Alexander."
"What happened?"
"We found the person who ordered the accident."
I grabbed the phone tighter.
"Who?"
A long pause.
Then he said:
"Someone inside your family."
The line went silent.
And I realized...
The biggest betrayal had never been Vanessa.
May you like
It was much closer.
