Chapter 12 - MY FATHER’S FINAL MESSAGE

The old Carter family estate had been abandoned for years.
Nobody went there anymore.
Too many memories.
Too much pain.
But that night, I returned.
Marcus followed me.
Clara came too.
I told her she didn’t have to.
She simply smiled.
“I know.”
“Then why are you here?”
She looked at me.
“Because you shouldn’t have to face this alone.”
Those words stayed with me.
Inside the old house, everything looked exactly the same.
The furniture.
The pictures.
The memories.
I walked into my father’s old office.
The place where he spent thousands of hours building our family business.
Martin searched behind the bookshelf.
After several minutes, he found a hidden compartment.
Inside was a small metal box.
My hands shook as I opened it.
There was a letter.
My father’s handwriting.
I had not seen it in fifteen years.
I opened it.
“My son, Alexander.”
I stopped.
For a moment, I wasn't a CEO.
I wasn't a businessman.
I was just a son reading his father's final words.
“If you are reading this, something happened that I feared.”
My breathing became heavier.
“Power attracts people who want to take what they did not earn.”
The next line made my heart race.
“Never trust someone only because they share your name.”
I looked at Martin.
He lowered his eyes.
The letter continued.
“The Sterling family will come after everything we built.”
My hands trembled.
“But remember this: the person who helps you when you have nothing is worth more than those who stand beside you when you have everything.”
I looked at Clara.
She quietly stood in the corner.
The only person who never asked for anything.
The letter ended with one final sentence.
“Your greatest protection will not be your money, your company, or your power.”
I turned the page.
“It will be the people who choose you when they gain nothing from you.”
I closed my eyes.
My father had understood everything.
Before I was even born into this battle.
Then Marcus found another item.
A small flash drive.
“What is this?”
I connected it to my laptop.
A video appeared.
My father was sitting behind his desk.
Older.
Tired.
But alive.
“If you are watching this, Alexander…”
His voice shook.
“I failed to protect you.”
I stared at the screen.
My father continued.
“But I did leave you a way to fight back.”
Then he revealed the secret.
A hidden trust.
A legal document.
A backup plan created years ago.
A plan that could destroy the Sterling family completely.
But then my father said something unexpected.
“The person who betrayed you may not be the person you think.”
The video stopped.
And one name appeared on the screen.
May you like
DANIEL HARRIS.
