Chapter 12 - JULIÁN’S LAST WEAPON

Julián was released pending further proceedings.
He went home to a mansion that no longer felt like his.
Renata had moved out.
His mother refused reporters.
The board suspended him.
His accounts were under review.
And Claudia would not answer his calls.
So he used the last weapon he had.
Public humiliation.
Anonymous stories appeared online.
Claudia had manipulated evidence.
Claudia wanted revenge.
Claudia had invented the abuse to steal BioMed.
Claudia had secretly planned the divorce for years.
Then photographs appeared.
Pictures of Claudia meeting Esteban late at night.
Pictures of Claudia entering a hotel conference room with Samuel Ortega.
Pictures cropped carefully enough to make ordinary meetings look suspicious.
For twenty-four hours, the internet did what it always did.
People chose sides without knowing anything.
Claudia’s phone filled with messages.
Some supportive.
Some vicious.
Some threatening.
She turned it off.
Her mother found her sitting at the kitchen table.
Elena Rivera was thinner after treatment.
Her hair had begun growing back.
She placed two cups of coffee on the table.
“You look twelve years old again.”
Claudia laughed weakly.
“I feel eighty.”
Elena sat beside her.
“Are you going to quit?”
Claudia stared into her coffee.
“I don’t know.”
Her mother nodded.
“That’s allowed.”
Claudia looked at her.
“I thought you’d tell me to fight.”
“No.”
Elena reached across the table.
“I spent my whole life teaching you how to fight.”
She squeezed Claudia’s hand.
“I forgot to teach you that you’re allowed to decide what’s worth fighting for.”
Claudia’s eyes filled.
“What if they never believe me?”
Elena shrugged.
“Some won’t.”
“What if they think I wanted his money?”
“Some will.”
“What if they say I destroyed him?”
Her mother looked directly at her.
“Did you?”
Claudia thought about it.
“No.”
“Then don’t carry his choices like they belong to you.”
That night Claudia turned her phone back on.
There was one voicemail from Julián.
She almost deleted it.
Instead she listened.
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
“Withdraw the corporate claims.”
A pause.
“Keep the divorce.”
Another pause.
“Take money.”
Then his voice hardened.
“But if you take the company from me, I’ll make sure nobody remembers you as a victim.”
Claudia saved the recording.
Forwarded it to Esteban.

Then typed two words.
Exhibit Eighteen.
