Chapter 13 - The Boardroom Execution

Daniel escaped before reaching the detention center.
The transport driver had been paid.
The guard survived.
Daniel disappeared.
Kevin still attended the emergency board meeting.
Annie remained at the mansion with the twins and Detective Ruiz.
Margaret was brought from custody to testify by video.
The Morrison Dynamics boardroom occupied the top floor of a glass tower overlooking Manhattan.
Reporters crowded the street below.
Kevin entered alone.
Twelve board members sat around the table.
Daniel’s empty chair remained beside Kevin’s.
Board Chairman Robert Lang stood.
“Kevin, the federal investigation has made your continued leadership impossible.”
“Then you have already decided.”
“We are giving you an opportunity to resign.”
Kevin placed Lauren’s transaction key on the table.
“No.”
Robert’s expression tightened.
“We have documents carrying your authorization.”
“You have forged records.”
“They passed verification.”
“Because Daniel built the verification process.”
A board member leaned forward.
“Daniel claims you ordered the transfers.”
“Daniel kidnapped my children today.”
The room became silent.
Robert looked toward the attorneys.
“That accusation has not been formally established.”
Kevin laughed.
“My sons were pulled from a moving vehicle.”
“And you are concerned about formal wording.”
Another board member spoke.
“The company cannot survive this level of instability.”
Kevin looked around the table.
“You mean my instability.”
No one answered.
Kevin connected Lauren’s transaction key to the central screen.
The nursery footage appeared.
The board watched Kevin holding Jordan while a transfer was supposedly authorized across town.
Another clip showed Lauren bathing Justin while her signature was being used on a foreign account.
Timestamp after timestamp contradicted the financial system.
Robert’s face changed.
Kevin displayed the toll footage.
Daniel stepped out of Lauren’s SUV.
Then Kevin played the recovered audio.
“You should have accepted the money,” Daniel’s voice said.
The room erupted.
Kevin raised one hand.
“There is more.”
A live video connection opened.
Margaret appeared from the police interview room.
Her eyes were swollen.
“I erased the security footage,” she said.
“I did it after Daniel told me Lauren had caused an accident.”
“He knew before the police called.”
Robert stood.
“This meeting is suspended.”
“No,” Kevin said.
“It has just begun.”
He opened the complete transfer ledger.
Four board members had received payments from Daniel’s shell companies.
Their names appeared on the screen.
Security officers entered.
The guilty directors rose.
One tried to run.
Another began shouting about legal counsel.
Robert stared at the transactions linked to his own account.
Kevin looked at him.
“You wanted my resignation.”
Robert’s face turned gray.
Kevin slid a document across the table.
“You have yours.”
Federal agents entered the boardroom.
Phones rang throughout the room.
News alerts began appearing.
Morrison Dynamics’ stock dropped twenty percent within minutes.
Kevin’s chief legal officer approached him.
“You cleared your name.”
Kevin looked at the company logo on the wall.
“No.”
“I proved Daniel lied.”
“That is not the same thing.”
His phone rang.
Annie’s name appeared.
Kevin answered.
Her breathing was frantic.
“Kevin, Daniel is inside the mansion.”
Kevin ran toward the elevator.
“Where are the boys?”
“With me.”
May you like
A gunshot sounded through the phone.
The line went dead.
