The documents led Julian to an abandoned farmhouse outside Boston.
It had belonged to Rose.
Inside...
Everything was covered in dust.
Lily wandered quietly through the rooms until she found an old wooden chest beneath the floorboards.
Inside...
A journal.
Letters.
Photographs.
And dozens of newspaper clippings.
Rose had documented everything.
Every stolen dollar.
Every bribe.
Every threat.
Near the end of the journal was one sentence written in shaky handwriting.
"If you're reading this, I'm already dead."
Julian's hands trembled.
Another page followed.
"I never stopped loving my family."
"But someone inside it wants every Ashcombe heir dead."
Just then—
A gunshot shattered the farmhouse window.
