Chapter 3 – The Hospital Confession
Doctors rushed Edward into a private hospital.
The entire Ashcombe family followed.
Julian refused to leave Lily alone.
Hours later...
Edward finally opened his eyes.
He looked at Julian.
"Send everyone out."
The room emptied.
Only Julian remained.
Edward stared at the ceiling.
"I never wanted Rose to disappear."
Julian's jaw tightened.
"But you let everyone believe she was a thief."
Edward closed his eyes.
"I was trying to protect the family."
"No."
Julian stepped closer.
"You were protecting yourself."
Edward's silence was all the answer Julian needed.
Then he whispered,
"Rose found evidence against your grandfather."
Julian frowned.
"My grandfather?"
"He wasn't the man everyone believed."
Edward began shaking.
"He arranged the fire."
Julian's blood froze.
"What fire?"
"The orphanage."
The room went completely still.
Edward looked toward Lily sleeping in the chair.
