Lucas took the paper from Lily’s hand.
His fingers trembled.
It was old.
Yellowed.
And sealed with the handwriting of his late wife, Emma.
The woman who had died three years earlier.
The woman who had trusted him with their daughter.
Vanessa stepped backward.
“Lucas, please.”
“Let me explain.”
He looked at the envelope.
Then at her.
“Explain why you have my wife’s letter.”
Vanessa said nothing.
That silence answered everything.
Lucas opened it.
Inside was a short message.
His wife’s handwriting filled the page.

If you are reading this, something happened before I could tell you.
Protect Lily.
Do not trust everyone who says they love her.
Lucas’s hands went cold.
The room became silent.
Because everyone understood.
Emma had left a warning.

Vanessa knew about it.

“Daddy…”
