Chapter 2 - The Bride’s First Lie

Lucas unlocked the door himself.
The moment it opened…
Lily ran into his arms.
Her small body was shaking.
Lucas held her tightly.
“Daddy, I was calling you.”
“I thought nobody would come.”
Lucas looked at his daughter’s tear-filled eyes.
His anger grew.
Vanessa stepped forward.
“Lucas, you’re misunderstanding everything.”
“She locked herself in there.”
Lily immediately shook her head.
“No.”
“Vanessa locked me inside.”
A wave of whispers spread through the room.
Vanessa’s face changed.
“That’s a lie.”
Lucas looked at her.
“Lily doesn’t lie.”
Vanessa laughed nervously.
“You’re choosing a child’s story over your future wife?”
Lucas stared at her.
“Yes.”
“Because my daughter has never given me a reason not to believe her.”
The words hit Vanessa harder than a slap.
Then Lily reached into her pocket.
She pulled out a folded piece of paper.
Lucas recognized it immediately.
His face turned pale.
That paper was from his wife’s old belongings.
“Where did you get that?”
Lily looked at Vanessa.
“She took it from mommy’s room.”
Vanessa’s breathing changed.
Lucas noticed.
