Chapter 14 - The Last Secret

The world believed Callum Russo was untouchable.

They were wrong.

Because the one thing that could destroy him was not a bullet.

Not an enemy.

Not a rival.

It was the truth.

For two days, Chicago’s most powerful people watched the news.

Rumors spread.

The Russo empire was collapsing.

Executives disappeared.

Accounts were frozen.

Enemies started moving.

Everyone waited for Callum Russo to fall.

But they didn’t understand him.

Callum didn’t fall.

He adapted.

Inside the private office, Sadie watched him work.

“You haven’t slept.”

Callum didn’t look up.

“No.”

“You haven’t eaten.”

“I’m fine.”

She sighed.

“There it is again.”

“What?”

“The lie.”

He looked at her.

“You’re becoming annoying.”

A small smile appeared.

“Maybe.”

For the first time in days, Callum almost smiled.

Then Marcus entered.

“We found Richard.”

Both of them turned.

“Where?”

Marcus placed a file on the desk.

“He’s leaving the country.”

Callum opened it.

Private plane.

Fake passport.

Hidden accounts.

Everything.

“He planned this.”

“Yes.”

Sadie looked at the documents.

“But he doesn’t have the confession tape anymore.”

Callum nodded.

“That’s the problem.”

They had proof.

But not enough.

Richard had spent decades building protection around himself.

One mistake would not destroy him.

They needed the final piece.

Then Sadie noticed something.

“Wait.”

She grabbed the old photograph from the desk.

The one showing Anthony, Daniel, and Richard.

She pointed.

“Look.”

Callum leaned closer.

“The tape recorder.”

Sadie shook her head.

“No.”

She pointed at Richard’s hand.

“He’s holding something.”

Callum stared.

A key.

A small silver key.

His expression changed.

“That wasn’t in the box.”

Sadie looked at him.

“Where is it?”

Callum thought.

Then suddenly stood.

“My father’s grave.”

Sadie frowned.

“What?”

“My father trusted only one place.”

He grabbed his coat.

“Where he could hide something forever.”

They drove through the rain.

At the cemetery, Callum stood in front of Anthony Russo’s grave.

For years, he had visited this place angry.

Tonight, he came looking for answers.

He knelt.

Removed the stone cover beside the grave.

And found a hidden compartment.

Inside was a small envelope.

The final letter.

Callum opened it.

His father’s handwriting appeared.

Callum,

If you found this, it means I failed to stop him.

His breathing slowed.

But I need you to know something.

Your grandfather was never the true mastermind.

Sadie stepped closer.

“What?”

Callum kept reading.

His face changed.

The letter continued.

The person who helped him was someone you trust.

A name was written below.

Callum stopped.

His hands went still.

Sadie whispered:

“Who?”

Callum slowly looked up.

The answer was written all over his face.

“It’s someone close to me.”

Before he could say the name…

his phone rang.

Marcus.

Callum answered.

“Boss.”

“What happened?”

A long pause.

Then Marcus said:

“We found who leaked the location.”

Callum waited.

Marcus’s voice lowered.

“It was Elena.”

The phone slipped slightly in Callum’s hand.

His mother.

The woman who claimed to protect him.

May you like

The woman who brought them the truth.

Had she been part of the lie all along?
