Chapter 10 - The Night Everything Changed

The hospital hallway was silent.
Too silent.
Callum Russo hated hospitals.
They reminded him of weakness.
Of things money couldn’t always fix.
Of moments when power meant nothing.
But tonight, he walked through those white corridors without hesitation.
Because Evan Blake was lying somewhere inside.
And for the first time, Callum didn’t know whether he wanted answers…
or revenge.
Sadie walked beside him.
“You’re thinking about killing him.”
Callum glanced at her.
“No.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“That was a very fast answer.”
“Because I’m not angry.”
Sadie looked at him.
“That’s worse.”
Callum didn’t respond.
She was right.
Anger was easy.
Anger was loud.
But when Callum Russo became quiet…
people disappeared.
They reached Evan’s room.
Two security officers stood outside.
Marcus looked up.
“Boss.”
“Condition?”
“Alive.”
“Talking?”
“Barely.”
Callum opened the door.
Evan was lying on the bed, bruised and exhausted.
The confident businessman from yesterday was gone.
Now he looked like a man who had spent the last few hours running from death.
When he saw Callum, his eyes filled with guilt.
“You came.”
Callum stepped inside.
“You’re lucky.”
Evan gave a weak laugh.
“Lucky?”
“You’re alive.”
Evan looked away.
“That’s debatable.”
Callum stood beside the bed.
“Start talking.”
Evan closed his eyes.
“I knew this day would come.”
“What day?”
“The day you found out.”
“Found out what?”
Evan looked at Sadie.
Then back at Callum.
“The truth about Anthony Russo.”
Callum’s expression didn’t change.
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
“Because everyone was protecting you.”
“I don’t need protection.”
Evan smiled sadly.
“That’s exactly what your father used to say.”
The room became quiet.
Callum stepped closer.
“Tell me what happened.”
Evan took a deep breath.
“Your father discovered someone inside the organization was stealing from him.”
“Who?”
Evan looked at him.
“Your mother wasn’t the one making decisions.”
Callum’s jaw tightened.
“Then who was?”
Evan swallowed.
“The man who raised you.”
A silence followed.
Sadie looked confused.
“What does that mean?”
Evan looked at her.
“It means Anthony Russo wasn’t Callum’s real father.”
Nobody moved.
The words hung in the air.
Callum stared at him.
“What did you say?”
Evan looked terrified.
“I’m sorry.”
“Say it again.”
“I said…”
Evan’s voice shook.
“Anthony Russo wasn’t your biological father.”
The room felt frozen.
Callum’s face became unreadable.
But Sadie saw it.
The pain.
The shock.
The wound hidden behind years of control.
“That’s impossible.”
Evan shook his head.
“No.”
He looked at him.
“That’s the secret your father died protecting.”
Callum turned away.
“Who is my father?”
Evan hesitated.
That hesitation was enough.
Callum turned back.
“Who?”
Evan whispered:
“Daniel Miller.”
Sadie stopped breathing.
Because the name meant only one thing.
Her father.
Callum looked at her.
Neither of them spoke.
The impossible truth stood between them.
They weren’t strangers.
They were connected.
By blood.
By secrets.
By a death that happened twelve years ago.
Before anyone could say another word, the hospital lights flickered.
Marcus immediately reached for his weapon.
Then the power went out.
A second later…
a gunshot echoed through the hallway.
Callum turned.
May you like
The bullet hit the wall inches from Sadie.
Someone was trying to finish what they started.
