Chapter 4 — The Children Who Learned to Trust Again

After Victoria was arrested, Nathan expected his children to immediately feel safe.

They didn’t.

Because fear does not disappear overnight.

Emma still woke up screaming.

The youngest child hid whenever someone raised their voice.

The little boy refused to sleep unless the hallway light stayed on.

Nathan realized something painful.

Saving them from the basement was only the beginning.

Now he had to help them heal.

He canceled business trips.

He stopped attending unnecessary meetings.

For the first time in years…

Nathan Harrington became a father before becoming a billionaire.

He cooked breakfast.

He read bedtime stories.

He sat beside them during nightmares.

One night, Emma looked at him.

“Daddy?”

“Yes?”

“Are you going to leave too?”

Nathan’s heart broke.

“No.”

She looked down.

“Mommy said rich people always choose important things over children.”

Nathan knelt beside her.

“Emma…”

“You are the most important thing in my world.”

For the first time…

May you like

she smiled.

A real smile.
