Chapter 1: The Secret She Was Forced to Hide

The mansion was always silent.
Too silent.
Every morning, the staff moved through the enormous halls like shadows, trained to keep their voices low and their problems invisible.
But that morning, something felt different.
Emma Williams, a 28-year-old housekeeper, walked through the marble hallway carrying a tray of coffee. Her uniform was perfectly pressed, her hair neatly tied back, but nothing could hide the exhaustion in her eyes.
She had not slept.
Not after another night of fear.
Not after another warning whispered in the darkness.
"If you tell anyone, you’ll regret it."
Emma pulled her sleeve lower, covering the painful marks on her arm.
She had become an expert at hiding the truth.
A little makeup around her eye.
A fake smile.
A simple excuse.
That was how she survived.
But someone had noticed.
Michael Harrington, the owner of the mansion, watched her from across the room.
He had seen hundreds of people pretend.
But Emma’s smile was different.
It wasn’t happiness.
It was fear.
"Emma," he called gently.
She stopped.
"Yes, Mr. Harrington?"
He walked closer.
"What happened to your eye?"
For a moment, panic crossed her face.
Then she looked down.
The same answer came out automatically.
"I fell."
Michael studied her carefully.
"No."
Emma looked up.
His voice remained calm, but there was something powerful behind it.
"You didn't fall."
Her hands began shaking.
"Please... don't ask questions."
"Why?"
"Because some things are better left alone."
Michael looked at her damaged expression.
