Chapter 1: The Child Hidden in the Shed

Chapter 1: The Child Hidden in the Shed

Jack Morgan had spent ten years learning how to survive impossible situations.

War zones. Ambushes. Betrayals.

But nothing prepared him for what he found behind an old farmhouse in rural Montana.

After leaving the military, Jack returned to his hometown with one goal — disappear from the world and start over.

But when he arrived at his late father’s abandoned farm to collect his belongings, he noticed something strange.

The old shed behind the house was locked from the outside.

A small child’s footprint was pressed into the mud.

Jack’s instincts immediately took over.

He kicked open the door.

Inside, hidden beneath a pile of hay, was a little girl.

Five years old.

Barefoot.

Terrified.

Her tiny hands held a worn stuffed rabbit.

Jack slowly lowered his weapon.

“Hey
it’s okay. I’m not here to hurt you.”

The girl stared at him with frightened eyes.

Then she whispered something that froze him.

“My mommy told me never to tell anyone where I am.”

Jack looked toward the farmhouse.

A woman was standing there.

Watching.

Waiting.

And suddenly, the abandoned farm didn’t feel abandoned anymore.
