CHAPTER 8: THE LAST SLAP

Five years later.

I returned to the same university courtyard.

The place where my father slapped me.

The place where everyone thought my life ended.

But they were wrong.

It was where my life began.

A young student approached me.

“Dr. Bennett?”

I smiled.

“Yes?”

“I heard your story.”

She hesitated.

“How did you survive being treated like that?”

I looked at the old stone pavement.

Then I smiled.

“Because I finally understood something.”

“What?”

“No one can steal your worth.”

“They can lie about you.”

“They can hurt you.”

“They can try to erase you.”

“But they cannot change who you are.”

I looked toward the microphone where everything started.

The day my father tried to destroy me…

He accidentally gave me the one thing I needed.

A reason to speak.

A reason to fight.

A reason to stop being afraid.

The slap that was supposed to silence me…

Became the sound that exposed twenty-two years of lies.

And that was the day Emily Bennett stopped being the daughter they tried to break.

She became the woman they could never control.
