CHAPTER 6: THE FINAL CONFRONTATION

Three months later.
I stood inside the Bennett mansion.
The same house where I spent my childhood feeling invisible.
Richard sat across from me.
He looked older.
Smaller.
Weak.
“I lost everything.”
I said nothing.
“You destroyed my life.”
I looked at him.
“No.”
He looked surprised.
“You destroyed your own life when you decided I was disposable.”
He lowered his head.
“Can you forgive me?”
For a moment…
I remembered being eight years old.
Waiting for him to hug me.
Waiting for him to tell me I mattered.
But that girl was gone.
“I forgive you.”
His eyes lifted.
Hope appeared.
“But forgiveness doesn’t mean permission.”
May you like
I stood.
“You don’t get to hurt me again.”
