Chapter 2 — The Truth That Broke the Groom

The bridal suite fell into complete silence.
Only the recording continued to play.
"...His father trusted me. That was exactly why it was so easy."
Every word echoed through the shattered room.
Daniel's breathing became slow and deliberate.
His eyes never left Emily.
Not even when Vanessa lowered her raised heel and stepped back in confusion.
Emily reached toward him, tears streaming down her face.
"Daniel... please. She's trying to kill our baby."
For one agonizing second, he didn't move.
Then he crossed the room.
Hope flooded Emily's chest.
She knew he was coming to save her.
Instead...
He walked past Vanessa without looking at her.
He bent down, picked up the Bluetooth speaker, and stopped the recording.
The silence that followed was even louder.
"Is it true?" he asked quietly.
Emily couldn't answer.
Her lips trembled.
"I asked you one question."
She closed her eyes.
"...Yes."
The single word shattered everything.
Daniel staggered backward as if she had struck him.
"My father lost his company."
"My mother died believing the stress killed him."
"My family lost everything..."
His voice cracked.
"And all this time..."
"...it was you."
Emily sobbed harder.
"It wasn't supposed to happen like that."
"I only wanted revenge."
Daniel laughed once.
It was empty.
Cold.
"So while I thought I was marrying the woman who saved my life..."
"...I was actually marrying the person who destroyed it."
Suddenly Emily cried out in pain.
A sharp contraction ripped through her body.
Blood slowly spread across the white fabric of her wedding gown.
Daniel looked down.

For the first time since entering the room...
