Chapter 14 - The Last Secret of the Mansion

We raced back.
Nathan entered the mansion faster than anyone.
“Marcus!”
“Mason!”
The boys were asleep.
Alive.
Safe.
For a moment, everyone breathed again.
Then I noticed something.
The room.
Something was wrong.
I walked slowly.
The toys.
The books.
The furniture.
Everything looked normal.
But normal was exactly what fooled people.
I looked at the wall.
The same wall where the hidden camera had been found.
Then I saw it.
A tiny mark.
A scratch.
Fresh.
“Open this wall.”
Everyone looked at me.
“What?”
“Open it.”
Nathan didn’t question me.
He ordered security.
Minutes later, a hidden compartment was discovered.
Inside was a small box.
Nathan opened it.
And froze.
Photographs.
Documents.
A letter.
From Elena.
Nathan picked up the letter with shaking hands.
“My love,” he read.
“If you found this, then I failed to protect our family.”
He stopped.
His eyes filled.
I looked away.
Some pain was too private to witness.
He continued.
“I know Vincent is dangerous. But he is not the only person involved.”
Everyone froze.
Not again.
Another secret.
Another betrayal.
The letter continued.
“There is someone helping him from inside the mansion.”
Nathan looked up.
“No.”
I felt my stomach tighten.
Because we had already searched everyone.
Everyone except one person.
The letter revealed a final name.
The name Elena had hidden until the end.
Nathan whispered:
“Impossible.”
Gerald stepped closer.
“Who is it?”
Nathan didn’t answer.
Because he couldn’t.
Finally, he said:
“Someone who has been with this family longer than anyone.”
Everyone looked around.
Then the mansion lights went out.
Again.
A scream came from upstairs.
One of the guards.
We ran.
The security room door was open.
The monitors were flashing.
Someone had accessed the entire system.
A figure appeared on screen.
Not Vincent.
Someone else.
Someone wearing a familiar face.
Nathan stared.
“No…”
I looked at him.
“Who is that?”
His voice was barely a whisper.
“My father’s old attorney.”
I frowned.
“The man who died years ago?”
Nathan nodded.
“But he didn’t die.”
Another person who disappeared.
Another person who came back.
This family had been surrounded by ghosts.
The truth came together piece by piece.
Vincent wasn’t the mastermind.
He was only the weapon.
Someone older.
Someone smarter.
Someone who had been controlling the Coleman family for decades.
The attorney had manipulated Nathan’s father.
Manipulated Vincent.
Manipulated Elena’s death.
And now…
He wanted Nathan’s empire.
The computer screen suddenly displayed a message.
“Nathan, you always believed you were the strongest.”
A pause.
“You were only the easiest to control.”
Nathan clenched his fists.
The message continued.
“Come to the old Coleman estate.”
Then:
“Bring the nanny.”
I looked at Nathan.
He looked at me.
May you like
We both understood.
This was the final move.
