Chapter 11 - The Poison Was Never the Real Weapon

Panic spread through the mansion.

Every employee was tested.

Every room was checked.

Every person was questioned.

But Nathan noticed something.

Nobody was looking at the real problem.

The poison.

“It was never about killing my sons.”

I looked at him.

“What do you mean?”

Nathan stared at the files Elena left behind.

“If someone wanted them dead, they would have increased the dosage.”

That was true.

The poisoning had been slow.

Careful.

Controlled.

Someone wanted Marcus and Mason alive.

But weak.

Why?

I opened Elena’s documents again.

There was a pattern.

The boys became sick.

Nathan stopped working.

Business decisions slowed.

People around him gained influence.

Then I saw it.

The connection.

“The poison was a distraction.”

Nathan looked at me.

“What?”

“They weren’t trying to kill your sons.”

I pointed at the documents.

“They were trying to make you desperate.”

He understood immediately.

A desperate leader made mistakes.

A grieving father became easier to control.

Someone had been weakening Nathan emotionally.

Not physically.

Gerald found another hidden file.

A financial report.

Nathan’s companies had been losing control slowly.

Not because of competition.

Because of internal decisions.

Someone had been moving money.

Changing contracts.

Creating problems.

And every problem led back to one person.

Vincent Coleman.

Nathan’s missing brother.

“He’s been preparing this for years,” Nathan said.

I nodded.

“He didn’t want your empire.”

Nathan looked at me.

“He wanted me to destroy myself.”

That night, Nathan finally told me the truth about his family.

His father had built the Coleman organization through fear.

Nathan spent years trying to become different.

Protect his family.

Protect his children.

Protect Elena.

But Vincent believed kindness was weakness.

“He always said I was too soft,” Nathan whispered.

“And now he’s proving a point.”

“No.”

Nathan looked at me.

“He’s trying to punish me.”

“For what?”

Nathan looked toward his sons’ room.

“For choosing my family over power.”

Before sunrise, security found something.

A hidden room beneath the garage.

Inside were photographs.

Hundreds of them.

Nathan.

Elena.

The boys.

Me.

Everyone.

Someone had been documenting their lives.

Watching.

Planning.

Then Gerald found a folder.

Inside was one photograph that made everyone stop.

It was taken ten years earlier.

Before Elena and Nathan married.

Before the twins were born.

Standing beside Vincent Coleman…

was Dr. Trevor Ashford.

They had known each other for decades.

This wasn’t a recent partnership.

This was a plan.

A long one.

Then the final document fell from the folder.

A birth certificate.

Nathan picked it up.

His face changed.

“What is it?” I asked.

He didn’t answer.

Gerald looked over his shoulder.

Then whispered:

“No…”

“What?”

Gerald looked terrified.

“Vincent wasn’t Nathan’s brother.”

I frowned.

“What are you saying?”

Gerald pointed at the document.

“Vincent was his father’s son.”

A pause.

“But not from his first marriage.”

Nathan stared.

The truth hit him.

Vincent was not trying to steal the Coleman empire.

He believed it already belonged to him.

Because according to the document…

Vincent was the true heir.

Then Nathan’s phone rang.

This time, the voice was clear.

No distortion.

No hiding.

“Hello, little brother.”

Nathan froze.

May you like

Because after five years…

He heard Vincent Coleman’s voice.
