Chapter 12 - The Brother Who Returned From The Dead

Nathan held the phone silently.

Nobody spoke.

Nobody moved.

The entire mansion waited.

Finally, Nathan answered.

“Vincent.”

A soft laugh came from the other side.

“I was wondering how long it would take you.”

Nathan’s eyes turned cold.

“You poisoned my children.”

“No.”

The answer came immediately.

“I saved them.”

Everyone looked confused.

Nathan’s voice became dangerous.

“You call that saving?”

“I kept them alive.”

A pause.

“Because dead children create questions.”

The room became ice cold.

I felt anger rising.

The cruelty was unbelievable.

Vincent continued.

“You always were emotional, Nathan.”

“You killed Elena.”

Silence.

Then Vincent said:

“She was going to ruin everything.”

Nathan closed his eyes.

For years he believed his wife died in an accident.

Now the person responsible admitted it.

“You took my wife.”

“I removed an obstacle.”

Nathan gripped the phone.

“You’re going to pay.”

Vincent laughed.

“Are you sure?”

A pause.

“Because if you arrest me, you lose everything.”

Nathan frowned.

“What are you talking about?”

Vincent’s voice became calm.

“The companies.”

The room went silent.

“The money.”

Another pause.

“The reputation.”

Nathan’s expression changed.

“What did you do?”

“I didn’t do anything.”

Vincent laughed.

“You did.”

Within minutes, Nathan’s security team discovered the truth.

Every major account connected to the Coleman empire had been frozen.

Every business partner had received documents accusing Nathan of illegal activity.

Someone had prepared everything.

Vincent wasn’t attacking with weapons.

He was destroying Nathan’s world piece by piece.

“He planned this,” I whispered.

Nathan looked at me.

“Yes.”

“He wanted you distracted.”

“Yes.”

“He wanted you fighting everyone around you.”

Nathan looked at the phone.

“And he wanted me alone.”

Then Vincent made one final move.

“You want your sons safe?”

Nathan said nothing.

“Come meet me.”

Gerald immediately stepped forward.

“Absolutely not.”

Vincent continued.

“Bring no security.”

Nathan’s jaw tightened.

“You expect me to trust you?”

“No.”

A pause.

“I expect you to love your children more than you hate me.”

The call ended.

Nathan stared at the phone.

Everyone knew what he was thinking.

He was going.

I stepped in front of him.

“No.”

Nathan looked surprised.

“Move.”

“You’re walking into a trap.”

“They have my sons.”

“No.”

I pointed toward the room.

“Your sons are here.”

He looked confused.

“Then what does he want?”

I looked at Vincent’s message again.

And suddenly I understood.

“He doesn’t want your sons.”

Nathan stopped.

“He wants you.”

The realization hit.

Vincent didn’t need children.

He needed Nathan broken.

He needed Nathan to surrender.

That evening, Nathan prepared to leave.

But before he walked out, Marcus called his name.

“Daddy.”

Nathan stopped.

The little boy looked at him.

“Don’t go.”

Nathan walked over.

Kneeled beside him.

“I have to protect you.”

Marcus shook his head.

“You already did.”

Nathan looked at his son.

A child who had almost been taken away.

A child who still believed his father was a hero.

Nathan hugged him tightly.

And for the first time, the powerful mafia boss cried.

Quietly.

Where nobody else could see.

Except me.

At midnight, Nathan left the mansion.

Alone.

Or so he thought.

Because I followed him.

I knew it was dangerous.

I knew it was reckless.

But Vincent had made one mistake.

He underestimated the nanny.

And he didn’t understand something important.

I wasn’t protecting Nathan Coleman because he was powerful.

I was protecting him because he was a father.

And as his car disappeared into the darkness…

my phone received a message.

Unknown number.

One sentence.

“I knew you would follow him, Sarah.”

My blood turned cold.

Because the next message appeared immediately.

May you like

“Now you’re exactly where I need you.”
