Chapter 4 - The Video That Changed Everything

The ballroom fell into complete silence.

Not the comfortable silence of wealthy people waiting for a speech.

A dangerous silence.

The kind that came before a family collapsed.

Liam Sterling stared at the tablet in his hand.

On the screen was a hospital room.

A room he remembered too well.

A room where he had said goodbye to his father.

A room where everyone told him his father had passed away peacefully.

But now...

He was seeing something nobody was supposed to see.

The video was blurry.

The sound was weak.

But the voices were clear enough.

His father's voice.

And Victoria's.

"Charles, you can't do this."

Victoria stood beside the hospital bed, younger but unmistakable.

Charles Sterling looked weak.

Tired.

But his eyes were filled with anger.

"You betrayed this family, Victoria."

Liam stopped breathing.

Around him, guests whispered.

Avery watched his face carefully.

She had seen Liam angry.

She had seen him frustrated.

But she had never seen him look broken.

"Turn it off," Victoria ordered.

Nobody moved.

"Turn it off now!"

Her voice cracked.

And everyone noticed.

Damian crossed his arms.

"Why?"

Victoria glared at him.

"Because this is private."

Damian laughed.

"Private?"

He looked around.

"You spent years destroying people with your secrets. Now everyone gets to see yours."

Liam pressed play again.

The video continued.

Charles Sterling looked at Victoria.

"You changed the documents."

Victoria froze.

"What?"

"You changed the inheritance agreement."

The entire ballroom gasped.

Liam looked confused.

"What inheritance agreement?"

Victoria's face turned pale.

Charles continued.

"My son deserves the truth."

Victoria stepped closer to the hospital bed.

"You don't understand what you're doing."

"No."

Charles coughed.

"I understand exactly."

Then the video suddenly cut.

The ballroom erupted.

Everyone started talking.

Reporters outside the estate began pushing toward the doors.

Avery felt overwhelmed.

Everything was happening too fast.

Liam turned toward Victoria.

"Tell me he was lying."

Victoria said nothing.

"Mom."

Her silence was louder than any confession.

Liam stepped back.

"How long?"

Victoria looked at him.

"How long what?"

"How long have you been lying to me?"

For the first time, Victoria looked like an ordinary person.

Not a billionaire.

Not a powerful woman.

Just someone afraid.

"You don't know the whole story."

Liam's eyes hardened.

"Then tell me."

Victoria looked at Avery.

And her expression changed.

"You."

Avery frowned.

"What?"

"This is what you wanted."

Avery couldn't believe it.

"Are you serious?"

Victoria pointed at her.

"You brought him here."

Damian stepped forward.

"Don't blame her for your mistakes."

Victoria ignored him.

"You have been planning this."

Avery's voice shook.

"I spent three years trying to earn your respect."

She looked around the ballroom.

"I defended this family."

"I protected Liam."

"I protected Leo."

"And you still treated me like I was some stranger trying to steal your name."

Victoria smiled coldly.

"Because you were."

The words cut deep.

Liam immediately stepped between them.

"Enough."

Everyone looked at him.

His voice was different.

Stronger.

"Don't speak to my wife like that."

Victoria stared at him.

"You choose her?"

Liam looked at Avery.

Then at his mother.

"Tonight?"

He shook his head.

"No."

"I choose the truth."

The ballroom doors suddenly opened again.

A woman rushed inside.

She was older.

Holding a stack of papers.

"Mr. Sterling!"

Everyone turned.

"I know who changed the inheritance documents."

Victoria's face completely changed.

May you like

Because she knew that woman.

And she knew exactly why she was here.
