Chapter 13 - The Woman Who Came Back From The Dead

Nobody in the ballroom moved.

Nobody could.

Because standing in front of them was a woman they had buried twenty years ago.

A woman whose name existed only in old photographs.

A woman who was supposed to be gone forever.

Liam stared at her.

His voice shook.

"Isabella?"

The woman looked at him.

A sad smile appeared on her face.

"Hello, Liam."

Avery looked confused.

"Who is she?"

Daniel closed his eyes.

Because he already knew.

Victoria looked like she had seen a ghost.

"Impossible."

Isabella Sterling walked slowly into the room.

The same Sterling confidence.

The same sharp eyes.

But behind them was twenty years of pain.

"I was hoping I would never have to come back."

Victoria stepped forward.

"You died."

Isabella looked at her.

"No."

A pause.

"You needed everyone to believe I did."

The guests whispered.

Avery felt like she was trapped inside someone else's nightmare.

"Someone please explain."

Isabella looked at her.

"I am your mother."

The world stopped.

Avery stared.

"No."

Her voice broke.

"My mother died when I was a child."

Isabella shook her head.

"That is what they told you."

Daniel looked away.

Avery turned toward him.

"Dad?"

His silence answered everything.

Her heart shattered.

"You knew?"

Daniel whispered:

"I was trying to protect you."

Avery stepped back.

"Everyone keeps saying that."

Tears filled her eyes.

"But everyone keeps hurting me while doing it."

Isabella walked closer.

"I am sorry."

Avery looked at her.

"Sorry?"

The word came out full of pain.

"You let me believe I was abandoned."

"I watched you grow up from a distance."

"Then why didn't you come back?"

Isabella looked toward Victoria.

"Because she made sure I couldn't."

Everyone looked at Victoria.

The billionaire woman who always controlled the room.

But now...

She looked exposed.

"You don't know what happened," Victoria said.

Isabella laughed.

"I know exactly what happened."

She turned toward the crowd.

"Twenty years ago, Victoria Sterling tried to take control of this empire."

"Charles discovered her plan."

"Daniel discovered her plan."

"And I discovered something even worse."

Liam frowned.

"What?"

Isabella looked at him.

"Your grandfather's death wasn't natural."

Silence.

Avery felt cold.

"What are you saying?"

Isabella looked at Victoria.

"Charles Sterling was murdered."

The room exploded.

Victoria immediately shouted:

"Lies!"

Isabella calmly pulled out a file.

"Then explain this."

She handed the documents to Marcus.

Security checked them quickly.

Marcus's face changed.

"Liam..."

"What?"

Marcus looked at him.

"These are medical records."

Liam took the papers.

Then his hands started shaking.

Because the records showed something impossible.

His father's final medical report had been changed.

Someone had altered it.

Someone had covered up evidence.

And the signature approving the changes...

Belonged to Victoria Sterling.

Liam slowly looked at his mother.

"Mom..."

Victoria remained silent.

Avery watched the woman who had terrorized her for years.

And finally understood.

Victoria wasn't powerful because she had no fear.

She was powerful because she had spent decades hiding it.

Suddenly, the security alarms stopped.

The doors unlocked.

Ethan looked confused.

"Who stopped the system?"

Isabella looked toward him.

"I did."

Everyone turned.

She smiled sadly.

"Because I needed everyone in this room together."

"Why?"

Isabella looked at Avery.

"Because there is one final truth."

She opened another folder.

"The person who destroyed the Sterling family..."

She paused.

"Was not Victoria."

Everyone froze.

Victoria looked shocked.

"Don't."

Isabella ignored her.

"The person who started this entire war..."

"Was someone we all trusted."

The ballroom doors slowly opened.

A man walked inside.

And Liam's face turned white.

Because the person standing there...

Was the one person he never expected.

His own grandfather.

May you like

Charles Sterling.

Alive.
