Nathaniel brought Grace to a private medical facility owned by Cross Meridian.
Doctors immediately checked her pregnancy.
The first words the doctor said made Nathaniel’s expression change.
"Mr. Cross... the baby is under stress because of prolonged emotional trauma and exposure to extreme cold."
Nathaniel clenched his fist.
Someone had hurt Grace.
Not physically.
But deeply.
That night, Grace finally told him everything.

"My mother died when I was young," Grace whispered.
"That necklace was the only thing she left me."
Nathaniel became silent.
Then he asked:
"Can I see it?"
Grace looked confused.
"The necklace?"
"No."
He looked at her.
"The photo you have of your mother."
Grace froze.
"How do you know I have one?"
Nathaniel reached into his wallet.
And placed an old photograph on the table.
